The R-77-1 is slightly slightly worse than the 120A/B in terms of time to target. Otherwise, it retains the maneuverability of the R-77 while gaining that range.
The 120C-5 is a minor upgrade over the 120A/B, while the R-77-1 is a major upgrade over the R-77.
The gap between the 120C-5 and R-77-1 is smaller than the gap between the 120A/B and the R-77. This means they’d be more balanced than what we have now.
An NASAM is nothing close to an S-300. While the NASAM is nothing like an Pantsir aswell one with 9Xs or IRST missiles firing around 12 or 15kms would close the gap. If you want what it would closely resemble would be an chaparral with longer range missiles.
Edit: closes similarity from Russia would be the BUK-M1
No, it was great at turning. Problem with forward swept wings is that they wear out WAY quicker than traditional wings, so the airframe proved to Sukhoi to remain with the tradition wing sweep design.
I mean the ones that are currently in the game. But yes, Lavi too, should be TT.
Although Kfir is more iconic, it was mass produced and used by the IAF unlike the Lavi prototype.
The situation with Tornado is similar in Germany.
It is currently the only native German aircraft with a higher range and we only have one TT version and two non-TT versions. Imagine that tomorrow they add a fourth Tornado, as an event…
Same situation.
The other way to look at it though, is that Germany has the only ASM equipped Tornado and the only Premium Tornado. Both of which were at a lower BR for a long time.
Italy just got a 11.3 Tornado IDS, but its literally just the 11.7 one without GBUs so an annoying extra grind I imagine and Britain’s 11.7 Tornado IDS is the weakest in air modes by far and we havent got any for the 11.3/10.3 role
A NASAMS with AMRAAMs would be pretty good, even though it’s an active radar missile they’re quite easy to avoid at range so a ground launched one would still only be a major threat within 10km probably less even.
Another way to look at that would be the missiles worked for like a month, then didn’t for like a year and a half, and now kind of do haha.
Another downside of it, there’s nothing to use the Kormorans on! But they are the reason I bought the Nado haha.
