Does anyone else agree with me that ESS creating a one-way smoke for tanks with thermals is an insane thing when theres vehicles which don’t get thermals at such br’s?
It’s not exactly a major issue, but it’s an issue i just ran into and it was just unfair and not something i could do anything about. It doesn’t change the complexity of gameplay, all it does is give the opponent an instant win button by simply setting up an ess screen.
Thinking back to csgo, (which is a much better balanced game i’d say), one way smokes were awful and most players agreed not to do it in competitive play because how broken it was. I understand war thunder is not 1 to 1 with csgo, and the game offers more angles and routes than the small maps of go (though that comes with its own can of worms i wont go into), but it’s not fair and that’s what sucks.
Some people then might say that it’s okay for the game to not be fair, but i’d say it’s better for the game to have RNG elements (such as world of warships) than have elements that completely dominate the other side. I understand ESS is realistic, but you couldn’t find a way to balance it? Or maybe make it so people don’t have to grind their thermals? Because you know, it is built into the fucking tank?
ESS smoke + thermals is such a niche tactic that your mention of it is likely caused by a singular incident. You can fire through the smoke, which doesn’t spread as much as in real life, and ESS has a very long cooldown which is 3x the time of its use. Also only applicable to static positions, and also because ESS comes from the engine, most of the time you will need to continuously back up in order to actually be hidden. So no, it’s not unbalanced at all.
Go in fast, pull a 90 degree turn, then take cover
Sit behind your smoke as the enemy starts peeking your angle
Shoot everyone and hope nobody has thermals, which is a lot of people
Seems like a way to get free kills without doing anything yourself
Not really, most pros just dont use it since the opponents probly alr know about it and will just prefire the spot. They still use one way if it is still relatively new or they discovered it themselves.
Overlap of vehicles that have both ESS AND Thermals that can meet vehicles WITHOUT thermals is more likely than not extremely small, so it is not exactly a major issue.
Moreso if you are in a vehicle that does not have thermals and you see smoke, its entirely up to you to determine whenever it can be from ESS+Thermals equipped tank and act accordingly.
You’re whining that people are using their literal tools to practical good effect, using a strong combination of gear and tactics. You might as well complain somebody knows how to aim and shot you while you were moving.
I’m surprised you even know of one since they are extremely rare… care to tell us how many times you’ve seen a Bradley drive somewhere, ESS, then do a 180 degree turn and drive back through the smoke only to then shoot through it?
Getting rid of this stuff promotes the braindead W mashing that is killing the game, so I think making war thunder combat less complex is a net negative
