Statshark's Live Game Viewer is really bad for the game's health

Just dont be trash at game while having bad opinion, then you might get backed up. Like when 0.2 K/D people with 30% WR try to suggest changes. They shouldnt be able to make suggestions about gameplay until they get positive K/D and above 50% WR cause they dont understand how the game works.

So the claim here (I don’t know if I 100% believe it just yet) is that they are visualizing information that is available to players as part of the (permitted) localhost feed, then visualizing it using OCR. From the Discord, Jan 2:

Spoiler

###

1. Shark Client

Starting now, all patrons can go to StatShark - See All Player, Missile, and Vehicle Statistics and download the Shark Client application. So, what can it do?

### Live Game Viewer

Basically the same old live game viewer that was on the site a few months ago, this time as a built-in Windows application.

### Session Viewer

You can group up the games you played however you’d like, and you will instantly get the summed-up stats for the given session.

### Streamer Overlay

If you stream, your current session stats will update in real-time after getting a kill! How does it work? Why does it need to be an application? We use OCR (Optical Character Recognition) alongside available localhost endpoints to find the player names and map them to each given team, which is why it needs to run locally and can’t be on the website :(

So if it is OCR-based that could potentially be dodgeable if everyone anonymizes. (If that doesn’t work… well, that’d be good evidence this is just the old web-based version repurposed as an app).

Others have raised good questions about whether this heightened access only with a paid sub fee is consistent with ToS, and if player’s tokens who have opted in are still secure. Gaijin only ever gives out one secure token per account, if that is accessible to devs through an app you allow on your PC you’d potentially be sharing total account control with them. So I agree there’s some questions here. (I think another fair question would be how much Pluspy had to do with this, given certain things that went on in social media last year.)

After seeing how people farm kd/winrates with op vehicles like bmpt, ldircm helis, t58, etc.

I dont give a f- about skill websites.

This looks like it is just the website application but with an overlay

The 1% shouldn’t dictate the 99%, it’s that simple.
If someone is trying to change the game and they are a god-awful player, it probably means they do not understand the game mechanics enough to have a valid opinion. But even a broken clock can be right twice a day. So I still give the worst some listen.

People can easily look at your stats even without Statshark.

The other side of the coin is that its easy to find out trolls and people who have no clue what they are talking about.

You can claim to be the best Tiger II player in the world and only your playstyle is the only valid one, but if your stats show you have 0.2 KD in both Tiger IIs, its safe to say youre spouting nonsense.

Also, well written argument is judged on its own merit and rarely provokes people into “statchecking”.

That literally sounds like a type of forced segregation by toxic communities.

Idk. It is what it is. You could always see everyones K/D in games for the longest time. its only been a recent trend to hide all of this. Who cares if someone wants to be toxic. Its a game. Just ignore them

It is impossible to ignore a caste within the community that forcibly segregates players, describing them negatively just because the player expressing their opinion plays casually since they need to maintain a stable social life.

Which does not aim to maintain a K/D of 10/0 in every vehicle in the game.

My two cents on the issue, since I explored the option to make something similiar few months back.

XVM, or how the WoT tool was called, was just that - a tool. It doesnt even show info that isnt public, it just refines stats into more easibly accessible information.

Same with Statsharks Live Game Viewer.

Some people will use it to be more toxic, some just might want tool that will help them analyze the gameplay and make more informed decisions.

I know for sure would adjust my playstyle if I knew the person watching my left flank couldnt pour water out of boot with instructions written on the heel.

I just had a masive Déjà vu with this post

Sardine isn’t completely wrong in this case. It’s clear that somebody who is truely bad at the game (let’s take the previous 0.2 K/D and 30% winrate example) either have a very warped/unrealistic view of the overall balance picture or just have very little knowledge.

For example: my field of expertise is Chemistry, so I’m not going to give opinions about biology stuff and I won’t get mad when I’m being told my opinion of biology stuff holds less weight than the opinion of people who are good at that stuff.

Careful, you’re making sense.

This level of toxicity always ruins games.

“Bad” players have to exist for good players to exist.
And I am sick of skilled people demeaning the people that are the reason they even have their good stats.

“Hurr durr, your stats are bad even though I only have good stats because you let me.”
I’m not even saying this as someone that this commonly occurs to, because my stats exist because of worse players as well.
The difference is I respect them, I encourage them, I listen to their views, and don’t dismiss them just because of some weird nonsense.

Pretty much exactly this. Not to mention offensively it allows me to be more flexible. I know the person who has never survived a match probably won’t be able to evade my missile, whereas Bad karma is probably going to kill me. This lets me know who to be more wary of and who to pay attention to.

I wonder why lol.

Give me a name os vehicle, let’s check IF someone can or not can give u opinion about it.

its now the issue if someone can or can not have an opinion; having opinion should always be alowed.

its matter whenever someones opinion corresponds to the reality. Person with 0.2 KD in BMPT calling for BMPT buff probably shouldnt be talking about BMPT balance.

I mean i 100% agree. I am one of those players. Im by no means amazing. All im saying is if someone wants to say negative things about me because im a “bad player” That says more about them then anything else, and I just don’t care lol. I just dont think a website/ software should get a bad rep soley because some people mis-use it

We just had an example of a player making a strong claim that could easily be falsified by Statshark.
Now is that good or bad?
