The meta is to fly in straight line at either low alt or the airspawn you are given and frontally enegage and decide outcome within the first merge.
Match decided and 90% dead in the first engagement within 1 minute.
Get in, charge in like a maniac, headon to death at first opportunity, rack up before you die, leave then do the same.
This is it really. You do anything else, you are the odd one out.
Either team dead within 1-2 minutes. Hardly enjoyable for either party.
No-one cares either, it is just accepted as how the game is played, standard procedure.
This is props and above.
Majority of players resort to the lowest common denominator - (fly straight towards enemy with firepower etc and engage immediate)
and Gaijin provides no alternative or attempt to dissuade the mindset with various methods such as variable objectives, larger maps with less clustered objectives etc.
So sad and hard to enjoy the game anymore.
There is not much going on.
I swear 90% of the playerbase are only here to flex high tier vehicles rather than actually playing or being any good, it’s more of a personal statement over actual gameplay. This is what the game is now.
This is actually what online gaming in general has become, it is so shallow.
You dont agree with dying within 1 minute? Get laughed at. unreal.
Unfortunately, spawn costs are rather high making learning expensive and the rewards do not really offset it. Flying stock plane in sim is even more painful than air RB as the performance drop feels even more impactful (you might struggle to even take off with an air sim-appropriate fuel load on a big map).
Lake Ladoga is one of the most egregious examples.
You take off in your F8F-1. You begin side-climbing ~24:00.
Your team merges as early as like 22:30.
The game is over for most counts by 20:00 and you are stuck fighting either 2-3 vs a mostly intact enemy team OR there’s only stragglers left for you to hunt. Usually you’re fighting 2-3 vs many because most of your team died trying to lawnmow ground targets (some matches it feels like I’m the only american plane without bombs or rockets…)
If they would simply overhaul the spawning system, 90% of that would slow down a great deal. Unfortunately, so many are just interested in ways to get around “just playing the game” for the joy that playing games has always given us, just to “grind” faster to get to . . . whatever they are after I suppose. The game requires large amounts of work/play time to “progress” up the tech trees. We used to get and spade the vehicles by playing and that was “adequate” for most of us and not seen as hinderance. But the game grew a good deal and got bigger, normal and good for the game. Then came the lockdown, a vast amount of new, and yes younger players . . nothing wrong with any of that either, the game grew and I am sure the revenues did too . . . all good. Only side effect was, Gaijin began to STRONGLY market to this demographic and also make the HARD push for more modern vehicles. Younger players have less knowledge & experience with the older WW II & early Cold War vehicles than a lot of the older player base does . … nothing wrong with that either, just how it is. Anton himself once said in an interview that War Thunder would never have modern guided/automated weaponry . . because there would be no game to that. And frankly, I agree, BVR and the weapons associated with it . . just not a game at all really. Whoever has the better Skynet wins. Now I agree, the newer stuff looks cool & goes fast. But faster doesn’t mean better, it’s just faster is all. And I just don’t see firing missiles that do ALL the work for you as much of a “gaming challenge” myself. Personal preference I guess.
All that being said, and sorry for the verbiage, one thing that is just overlooked or totally ignored is the basic premise of aerial combat. The key thing a pilot wants to do is AVOID getting in front of an enemies guns, this plague of head on game play goes totally against that and that is mainly, a lack of “consequence” . . . nobody really dies or gets hurt, so . … . why not? . . . get a kill, get some points, rinse & repeat. The game has been long overdue for a complete overhaul of the spawning system, in every mode. Would that change the player’s actions and the “meta” of what we have now? . . . maybe a little, maybe not . . but it would at the very least give those of us that actually want a “game” to have a little bit better chance of that . . . who knows, more players might even find the joy of a good dogfight, or using tactics and strategery & maybe, just maybe . . . the “meta” might change. War Thunder is a great game, we all play it for fun and other reasons and there are things about it every one of us would change if it were up to us. I have heard many lament over the years about Gaijin/War Thunder living up to it’s potential and yeah, many parts do feel like it gets the “it’s good enough” treatment . . but people, on both sides of this game, or any other, are gonna do what they want . … and you can’t change that, or how people think or act, so . . play the game you’re given, do the best you can and . . . . “Teach them Senpai”
This type of gameplay would be fine if there were alternative modes that emphasized longer form gameplay and strategy. But there isn’t outside of Sim, which is better served by DCS servers.
There’s a VERY significant portion of the playerbase that has been begging for a separate mode to be added thats longer form.
Ive been begging Gaijin to reintroduce RB EC for 5ish years and i have not ever recieved a response or even acknowledgement from the devs or community managers.
I think even reworking their PVE modes would do wonders for this game. The Assault modes are so pathetic and really should just be axed altogether and heli PVE is void of much to do.
So getting rid of these modes and adding a proper Air PVE and Ground PVE mode could really help deliver the longer form gameplay experience without needing an enormous playerbase to fiill the matchmaker.
I wouldnt hold my breath here tho. Like i said, Gaijin doesnt even acknowledged this issue. It really seems like they purposely ignore it.
I see how many games and have had yet you make this post as if things were all so different “back in the day” yet if any newer players make the same suggestion that the game isn’t as good as it used to be we are shouted down by longer term players, telling us its always been the same or its better now than it was .
No that is fair enough Im not being a twat ,I am just baffled by what I am seeing on here.
Some veterans saying the game has turned to sh** and others sayings its better than its ever been.
Just having a similar conversation on another thread which is about a similar view.
I think overall now this game tries to be all things to all people.
Too many different ages and cultures to accommodate now days.
The game should be franchised off now ,So WT USA,WT Japan ,WT China,WT Europe etc etc
They should simply take away the name icons so you can’t see where everyone is, so people would actually have to use a radar in Air RB, would make people play way more how it should be and you could keep third person view
