The main thing is stabilizers, especially modern ones, are as much apart of the tank as the hull.
Thermals sights for example are heavily modifiable, which is why some leo 2a7s have gen 1 while others have gen 3.
Not to mention that as I said, the current system sucks, you cannot use a faulty system as a reason.
IMO the research system should be about upgrading, not unlocking essential systems.
For example the traction upgrades, the turret rotation upgrade, and engine upgrades makes sense, since while you are at a disadvantage you arent in such a disadvantage that your tank is rendered almost useless at times.
It also makes sense as you design the tank and improve upon it, just like IRL
Laser rangefinder and thermals shouldn’t be modifications in the first place, because they are integral to the FCS system. Why would stabilizer be???
