Is not wanting attack helicopters in an F1 racing game a sad lookout on the game?
This “accommodation” you’re talking about is just sad. CAS and bombers trying to do their thing is like a stray dog eating leftovers on the street.
Merciful fighter players allow them to have targets to drop bombs at, that in practice don’t change the outcome of the battle at all. All while there is an extremely high chance of getting killed by a fighter in the process, practically a suicide mission every time, especially at higher BRs.
It may be. I have a strict/scientific mind (as opposed to a humanist, I don’t know if that’s a thing in English) and often have communication issues. People often say to me that I need to be more specific, because they don’t know what’s in my mind.
-was willing to change how Air RB works in a fundamental way, placing more emphasis on the ground attack mission as opposed to only encouraging team deathmatch
-modeled the stealth more correctly so it’s stealthy in every direction and not just a few degrees in the front
-modeled the IR reduction more correctly so you’re not blasted to smithereens by Fox-2 from 5km out
-changed spotting mechanics so you wouldn’t have a giant red text above you 25 km out
Then I’d indeed find having the F-117 in a higher BR more fun, engaging, and rewarding
Sadly this is not the case right now.
Also: the ground attack and base bombing aspect of WT hasn’t changed since the game came out, it’s still stuck in WW2 with pure tonnage of bombs dropped being the only quality you measure attackers by. What about accuracy? The F-117 could have a valuable niche being able to bust bunkers with pinpoint accurate LGBs but sadly this is not valued at all in the current terms of the game
There is also no opposition except for enemy player aircraft, no enemy SPAA threat at all to circumvent/penetrate. A WW2 bomber could just as easily destroy strategic objectives as the F-117, and this is… flawed
I could say a lot, show some pictures, but I think saying this will be much quicker and convey the idea pretty well.
I wish to play something like GHPC, but with multiplayer. I would also like to have the tactical depth and competition WOT has and maybe 1 life only too, but I’m not sure about it. Also a bit more accessible, a bit more interface, to make it feel more like a game.
Basically I want an experience very close to sim, but made as a game with minimalistic, but present, clear and themed interface. I find something as simple as the loading screen in War Thunder before the battle, the green one with aircraft pictures/schemes, to be a nice touch.
I find interface in “KARDS - The WW2 card game” to be very well done. It has beautiful images/art too.
In War Thunder it could merge really well with planes too.
I also find it very cool in War Thunder that you can see different weapons systems in the same game and even in the same battle. You get a very nice uniform feel, if you know what I mean.
I’m confident that both the power of a 500kg bomb and a 37mm, 75mm or 120mm gun are realistic and comparable. I’m confident that a 50 cal on the Mustang is exactly the same as a 50 cal on top of a Sherman.
Recently I wanted to buy Squad, but after playing during a free weekend I found it very CPU heavy and unoptimized. It’s also an infantry-centric game, tank’s damage models aren’t very realistic.
I think a lot of people forget how well warthunder is optimized
I was able to run in a playable state on a mid range 2010 laptop with the cpu integrated graphics that was also water dameged (around 2021-2022 at the latest, i have upgraded around that time)
The F-117 is not stealthy from 1 direction. It was perfectly stealthy from all directions with the “hopeless diamond” shape made into the Have Blue prototype, but as it was found to be far too unstable, they reduced it’s effectiveness for some aerodynamic control.
But from most directions the F-117 has a very reduced radar crossection, making it “invisible” to early radar systems of the time period.
I wouldn’t say it’s very optimized, but rather it’s not unoptimized. Maybe I just don’t play many unoptimized games in general. What I would consider a very optimized game is WOT, it’s funny to see it in benchmarks having double or triple the FPS of all the other games.
War Thunder has very nice lighting and vehicle models, but maps are old and show their age.
Anti-aliasing is either very bad if you play in native 1080p or 1440p with TAA, or absolutely stunning if you play in 4K with DLSS for Nvidia or TAA + 80-100% sharpening for AMD.
Especially the antialiasing coming from DLSS is magic in 4K. AI is clearly superior to any anti-aliasing method. AI simply knows how the image should look like as a whole, instead of extrapolating information from surrounding pixels.
In my opinion War Thunder needs an overhaul like WOT 1.0, but just for the maps + fixed TAA.
They did use to meaningfully contribute, then the vocal minority of fighter players complained that if they ignored bombers they would win the match, so gaijin changed it and it was the final nail in the proverbial coffin for us bomber mains since 2013.
That has a low rcs for it’s size. If it’s the size of 2xB-29’s but has the radar cross section of a b-29 + 1/2 because it is a flying wing, it still makes the statement it has low rcs correct. What matters is context to what metric, itself or others. If none is given then it is automatically designated as referencing it’s presumed RCS for it’s size/surface area.
In air sim EC, we have “Survey planes” and “Attack planes” and “Bomber formations.”
At prop tiers, these vehicle roles are filled by more-or-less reasonable planes.
At korean jet tier, I start scratching my head at what I run into and find and very weird/absurd physics from these planes.
These planes should be those which were genuinely used for those roles (Ground attack, tactical/strategic bombing and reconnaisance).
Implementing the F-117 nighthawk could replace some of the attacker/bomber formations in appropriate sim EC brackets, improving immersion and fun.
Implementing reconnaisance-only planes could likewise be used to replace the current weird choices. The F117 nighthawk could also be perfect for this!
Now, you might ask: “Why add them to players if we could just add it for a.i to use and let it be?”
Well, because it’s cool to fly these planes. Since they’re very weird/niche things that don’t fit into the standard ARB meta, nor even sim metas (until we get the ability to do EWACS and data links between aircraft and other stuff at least. Doubtful), they’re implemented as squadron vehicles:
They’re clearly not for grinding (not premium)
They’re available all around the year (so thankfully not BP/event vehicle)
They’re not part of the tech tree so you don’t need to deal with their ineffective usage as they’re gimmicks for collectors who want to fly cool and weird stuff.
Recon aircraft should not come to the game. As is the 117 is in an weird spot but it still can serve a purpose for CAS in GRB not a big one but if Gaijin looking to bring in more stealth aircraft it does well for an entry.
Recon planes would only work on the basis like the recon aircraft you see in GRB for light tanks. Transport has no place in the game. other than a AI target.
