caid’s suggestion #181
I would like to suggest a Swiss tank that may look familiar to you. the Spz 2000
The Spz 2000 is a Swiss variant of the Swedish CV9030. named CV9030CH for the factory reference, it was designated Schützenpanzer 2000 or Spz 2000 in Switzerland.
the Spz 2000 was an IFV built under license by RUAG in Switzerland. the tank is based on the Swedish CV90 which received a few modifications. the first armament changed for a 30mm gun with the fire-control naturally being also different and Swiss-made. the rear door was replaced by a ram to make the mounting and dismounting of the troop faster, the tank is 200mm longer on the rear and the rear is 100mm taller. the tank also features a Scania engine and a Perkins transmission which make it a fair bit different than the Swedish version and make the mobility a bit different. while it does not affect the gameplay, the tank also received a modernization in 2020 with a camera all around to allow the crew to see what going out in the tank’s blind spot. other than that the tank remains the same as the Swedish version which is also known in the game as the Strf 9040.
the tank was accepted to services in 1999 with 154 IFV ordered in 2000 and 32 command versions also ordered at the same time. this tank was part of a modernization of the Swiss army which was still using the now nearly 40 years old M113. this order was made at the disfavor of the Swiss society Mowag who proposed their IFV to replace the M113, the last being the Trojan who was a direct competitor to the CV90. the first CV9030CH was put into service in 2001 and is planned to remain in service until 2040. As for today, no replacement is planned for this tank which is already at mid-life. a small modernization was still done in 2020 but it only brought small features that would not affect the game.
Firepower
The main armament is a 30mm Maschinenkanone Typ 44. this auto-cannon is far from being as powerful as the Swedish 40mm but it is still pretty decent. the gun is an Mk.44 Bushmaster II in Swiss services which is a gun that is well known and can be found ingame on a few IFVs as well. the ammunition is not all available but the essentials are still there. the turret is quite swift (assume the same as the Swedish version) and has an elevation of -8°/+35°. 400 rounds are carried for the main gun which makes it capable of firing 2 minutes continuously at the rate of 200 rounds minutes (supposing there is no reload and you are just wasting your ammo) that means you have enough ammo to last a whole battle without issue. the tank also has a coaxial which is a 7.5mm MG 51/00 which is the adapted version of the MG 51 which itself is a Swiss version of the MG 42 from Nazi Germany. the tank carries 2100 rounds for the coaxial in a 3x belt of 500 rounds ready to use and 600 rounds in the box (need to be placed in the belt before usage). Besides the armament, the tank features advanced equipment to help it to be more deadly such as the Two-plane stabilizer, night vision, thermal imagery, and laser-rangefinder which make it a quite modern tank.
Mobility
the tank is not exactly powered by the same engine as the CV90 found in the Swedish tech tree. The Swiss tank was powered by a Scania DI16 40A01P providing 625 hp at 2000 rpm. this makes up well for the tank being fairly heavier than the Swedish variants. the tank weighs 28.1 tonnes in combat load but can reach 28.7 tonnes with extra weight such as the passengers and extra gear. The transmission is a Perkins Typ-X300-8CH with 4 forward speeds and 2 backward with a torque converter and neutral steering. this makes for the tank a pretty smooth acceleration on all terrain. the top speed is 66 km/h forward and 43 km/h backward which makes this tank a pretty mobile one.
Protection
the protection of this tank is about identical to the early Strf 9040 found in the Swedish tech tree. the vehicles offer about the same armor as the Swedish tank. the protection is enough against the HMG on the frontal side but is pretty weak on the side and it is just strong enough against LMG. the tank remains a fairly light IFV after all and it is only offering light protection. the crew of 3 men is a bit small. it includes a driver on the front of the chassis and the commander and gunner in the turret. 8 smoke launchers are installed on the turret and 16 more smoke grenades are stored inside the vehicles to reload those launchers for a total of 24 smoke grenades carried.
Additional variants
there is actually 2 version of the Spz 2000
the command and control, and the IFV
the difference is internal. the command and control version is a commanding version of the tank. with the rear compartment modified and equipped with comfortable sits, field monitor, and a working desk to allow the officer to command the units on the field.
while the IFV version has a passenger compartment for 8 men in the rear.
both versions are essentially the same for the game. having one or the other in-game would make little difference to me and would even seem redundant. I mention them both in this suggestion just for informative purposes and I am not specifically suggesting any or both. but either one of them is good for me.
