Basic Background

The SPYDER-SR was developed in the early-mid 2000s when the demand for mobile and versatile air defense systems increased. Rafael combined the battle-proven Python-5 and Derby guided missiles into an integrated system that offers fast response and high flexibility in use.
Singapore recognized the need to modernize and expand its air defense capabilities. In 2008, the Singapore Ministry of Defence ordered two SPYDER-SR batteries, as well as 75 Python-5 and 75 Derby missiles. These systems were delivered in 2011 and 2012. Some SPYDER-SR systems were already commissioned by the Republic of Singapore Air Force’s (RSAF) 165 Squadron in 2011. It is reported that more SPYDER-SR systems have been ordered.

The SPYDER-SR Overall

The SPYDER-SR (“Surface-to-air Python and Derby - Short Range”) is an Israeli mobile air defense system, designed for short-range interception. Developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, with support from Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), the SPYDER is known for its rapid reaction capability and versatility in countering a wide range of aerial threats, including aircraft, helicopters, drones, cruise missiles, and precision-guided munitions. The SPYDER-SR operates as a low-altitude, quick-response surface-to-air missile system, providing protection for both stationary assets and mobile forces in combat zones. It is mounted on various types of trucks, including models from Tatra, Mercedes-Benz, MAN, Scania, and Dongfeng, and is equipped with the Python-5 and Derby missiles, which are compatible with both air-to-air and surface-to-air roles; as a surface launched config, these reach about 15km horizontal and 9km vertical. Targeting is done by TopLite EO/IR sensor device which is mounted behind the driver’s cab.
In the case of the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF), the SPYDER-SR is mounted on MAN RMMV TGS-MIL 6x6 trucks. These trucks, offer various configurations, with gross vehicle weights ranging from 26 to 33 tonnes and multiple wheelbase options. Powered by a MAN D20 or D26 Diesel engine producing 440hp / 480 hp, paired with a ZF 12 / ZF 16 manual gearbox and an optional fully automatic transmission. The suspension system features conventional leaf springs, shock absorbers, and anti-roll bars, ensuring stability and performance in rough environments.

Thanks for your time, hope you liked it :salute:

List of Suggestions of ASEAN region

Maybe added like a subnation for Israel? (just like british ADATS)
new spaa for minor nations its a must at this point

Maybe it would be better to add any Israeli Spyder to the Israel tree and this one for a complete Singapore subtree

This would be a great SPAA for Japan in a Singaporean Sub Tech Tree.

+1, but only if we get the SR variant for the Israeli tree as well :)

Pretty sure Israel doesn’t use the Spyder, but maybe they can get the Azeri one

It’s produced by Israeli company, in the same way the Sabra series was. No reason the SPYDER SR/MR/LR/ER variants can’t be added to Israel.

tell that the KF41, german produced not in the german tree since it is not in german service

Suggestions for it to be added to the German tree still exist. For the time being it’s meant to be a vehicle that makes the Hungarian subtree line unique.

same gonna apply in this case

Singapore has no home currently. If anything a Singaporean SPYDER SR would find its way into the Israeli TT ironically, unless a official subtree appears elsewhere.

ASEAN is yet to be fully confirmed by reliable leakers or gaijin themselves. Its only official when a gaijin employee officially states that a tech tree is home to a Singaporean subtree.

Iam not a fan of adding air defense systems that have their main components divided into 3 vehicles, out of which we get the launcher platform.

correct me if i am wrong,

but this one with the ball on the driver cabin might be an IRST like the ozelot?

So yeah, it is a standalone vehicle

It is what appears to be an optical tracking system that can be used to guide the missiles. Not an IRST, but functions more like an IRT.

The SPYDER is its own system entirely.

You need a radar for the bvr missiles. So no its not a standalone vehicle(The SPYDER MFU-AIO is). Even in the brochure of the manufacturer, it is mentioned that the radar and CCU are on different trucks in case of the SR version.

They can be slaved, the Derby can LOAL as all ARH missiles can. It’s likely possible to use the optics for general directional guidance, however I doubt the SPYDER SR has any datalink guidance or such for it.
Edit: reminder that the Derby can gain a lock within 18km of a target, and the missiles only have a range of 15km on the SPYDER SR, which means it’s not really going to LOAL ingame on this vehicle.
