SPYDER - General Discussion

Fellow forumites I have just unlocked the SPYDER. It has No datalink even for the derbys. They screwed us again boys

Highly suspect this myself.

Even when you watch Spyder in the sensor view, the beam is only ever in one direction as it spins.

It shouldn’t really be ‘spinning’ at all should it? Unless I’m fundamentally misunderstanding this, shouldn’t it just be an almost continuous 360° feed?

Perhaps a bug report about the discrepancy between what’s happening on the radar UI vs what’s happening mechanically in sensor view is in order ?

I would call people dying to Derbys beyond 8-10km braindead, but we all know how interesting the average CAS players fly in GRB so I’m not actually suprised.

Yes it should. ESA radars need multiple of TMR modules to create a beam effective over longer ranges, meaning scan of the full zone is impossible. And even if it was possible, amount of power and computing power needed would be enormous. At shorter ranges it is possible and is done, but for 200km? no.

On another note, remember that despite what gaijin wants you to belive, it is a hemispheric radar.

Yeah, 4 hemispheric radars each scanning a 90° portion of the sky that should scam tens of times per second. And not produce ghost signatures. The Gepard radar is better than this rn.

It’s not tens of times per second. Remember that at max range the radar needs to process 200km in any direction and 15km up. Current 1s per 90 degree seems fine for the fact we do not have variable scan times based on range.

exMHR has a C-RAM functionality up to 24km, so i would expect that to be the max range where it can instantly scan the whole hemisphere.

I would love to use a certain source i have, however i am afraid Gaijin might look at this graphic made obviously just to show the ranges, and say that exCHR has 4 degree of elevation

First of all if the pantsirs PESA manages 20 id think an AESA can do at least that much, second 24km is the e than enough given that still basically covers the whole map on GRB. Right now the radar is completely useless. It scans ridiculously slow and cant maintain a good track either. I fly plenty of jets including those with AESAs in game and they don’t have the ghost contact problem MSAs do. But SPYDER behaves like a really old and really slow MSA and again according to gaijin is has no datalink channels for its derbys which means unless they go pitbull you can’t guide more than one at a time

It all depends on a specific system.

Yes, but we do not have range specific scans.

In the datamines it has 8 DL channels. It is probably the fact that TWS is locked to one target only. If you can provide me with the picture of SPYDER in a test drive in a scenario simmilar to this, where there are more planes in the fov, but only one is tracked i will report it

They are planning to animate the side panels to fold out like it should? it seems like so in the xray

That would be at least a cosmetic win for the spyder

Looks like that in here too.

wow this thing isn’t very good at all, had more fun playing the 2S6

I believe the 2S6 has a radar better than this and better missiles too

Can you send this source to me please?

Even this thing is performing better than what we currently have in-game

Sure, I will post it later once I’m home. In the mean time, could you take a screenshot of it in the test drive doing TWS on only one target?

Welp that answers my question of if I’m grinding this or not

notice how when you give them proper source they ignore the report but when your wording is ever so slightly off they reject within a day

I just got killed by this missile launcher that I couldn’t manually retract
They should add this feature as soon as possible, allowing the player to manually operate the raise/retract of the missile launcher themselves

gaijin should also fix the smokeless motor of MIM-72E and MIM-72G.
since the AIM-9X is a smokeless missile, they should implement the same “code” in both missiles, even in Python 5.
