After the release of the new top tier MBTs and the new protection mechanic of spall lines being an addition to a certain number of tanks, I have come to the realisation that Gaijin have not properly refined the mechanics.
In my main account I have mained Sweden, Russia and Germany, I have over 3000 hours over all my accounts which I have reached top tier of at least 1 nation in the account. So far I am not impressed. recently which made me make this post, I was in a match against Russia playing Germany and two things happened.
1st: shot a T-90m in the side (it didn’t have the add on armour) with Dm53, TWICE nothing happened, there was very little spall and the round both times didn’t minimal damage, this links to the second event.
2nd: later in the game I was killed at and angle where I was almost facing them perfectly, during the shot replay I saw that the spall liners did not mitigate any of the spall from the incident round, this was after seeing a t-90M eat two of the highest penning rounds in the game and survive it could be a case of Russian bias or terrible spall liner mechanics. I just wanted to know if anyone else had similar issues
and want gaijin to do a rework of the entire thing.
Oh no. My steak is too juicy and my lobster is too buttery. What a tragedy.
Angled shots has more effectiveness compared to 0° shots against a target with spall lining, which same can happen with a T-90M, though I’m afraid the fuel tanks may reduce a lot the penetration power making this strategy very unreliable.
That’s why shooting directly on the side of the turret is the best strategy, you may not knockout the two crewmembers but the autoloader or the breech or even both should be disabled in the proccess.
Are you sure there was a penetration? Russian engineers can work miracles sometimes, and Russian tanks tend to have armor over a meter thick in the most unexpected places. Just look at the Shilka as an example.
Structural Steel parts has less health than most parts, that’s why you can damage exposed gun breeches with ease even though it’s labeled as 150 mm of armor equivalent.
Depending where you tried to hit (e.g. autoloader) they tend to work like protection for the ammo, this isn’t Russian bias thing because it also happens to bustle autoloader designs (e.g. Type 10 and Leclerc) tend to have crazy survivability when hit in the turret.
Advocate this to content creators aswell, some of them openly says that they have alternative accounts.
Actually, my friend sometimes plays the Shilka just for fun — taking advantage of the fact that people don’t know about that meter of armor around the guns — and he has a blast with it.
My not brother, I do have eyes and I see what’s happening. My first thought when I see a ZSU-23-4 is not shooting directly in the ammo in the turret sizes but in this spot you say do have 150 mm of effective armor.
Modules like Structural Parts (e.g. mud fenders, external storing boxes, etc. Painted in Cyan in the X-ray view), Gun Steel and others do have less health points that others, modules aswell additional armor (e.g. ERA on a T-72 or NERA on a Leopard 2A5) do have health points if they reach zero it’s deleted from the damage model (popped off) unlike composite armor and armor plates overall.
Using this datamine report as example that health points do exist and in this case also affects the ZSU-23-4’s Structural Part (including gun breech). War Thunder don’t have this crazy damage system: “No health points” that people uses of argument when comparing War Thunder to World of Tanks.
You can prove me wrong using the shooting simulator by firing most caliber machine guns directly at the said Structural Part, it’s very likely that it will recieve relatively good amount of damage despite the 150 mm of armor, if it doesn’t like many others vehicles with exposed gun parts either the damage model is incorrect or I am completely wrong.
It won’t take any damage — if you shoot that spot, you’ll just get a ‘no penetration’. Literally everyone who’s ever tried shooting a Shilka there knows this.
