we did tried a unitary system once, first the soviets era jets (which we are heavily in favor of), they were then not allowed to be operated during transition to the new order, primarily due to a lack of spare parts as well as political maneuvering, this leads to one of the worst readiness period of our time, with only 1 (yes 1) fully combat-ready fighter squadron in the early new order era. Then once things got better and plateaued a little bit later on we got hit hard by sanctions and restrictions on our equipments
as such both western and eastern equipment have some horrible downsides for us:
- The western problems
can simply be classified as extremely expensive and hard to obtain (due to us not being an “ally”), extremely restrictive (in the form of use and what tech we got) with the equipment often lacking things which makes it peer-to-peer with our neighbors (for the longest time we dont even have Aim-9s) as well as being easily cut off if the west deemed it necessary (incase of sanctions for instance).
- The Eastern problems
This can be simply explained as hard to maintain and obtain, which sounds counterintuitive, but for the first point, lets take our Sukhois for instance, the engines needed repairs, so instead of fixing it in Indonesia, we have to ship it all the way to Belarus (or Ukraine), wait for it to arrive there, wait for it to be fixed, wait for it to be shipped, and then wait for it to be operated again, a very long time. Fun fact our Sukhoi readiness is quite bad nowadays, and a majority of our Hinds aren’t even in flying condition, certainly not good. Additionally any new and shiny things we might get will eventually be blocked by CAATSA so majority of our procurement has been a benign one, with the Su-35 rumors now popping up with the new US admin in charge, you know the one who seems to a bit relaxed on Russia (due to ‘reasons’ i guess)
Its worth noting that the sukhois would most likely be retired in the coming years , it is not a future plan for us (atleast not what I think from our procurement directions)
for this we do have plans with Turkey, I’ve already explained plenty before, but to simply explain, we will get closer to Turkey, that is not an opinion, that is a definitive fact. This change has been in motion for the past years, and most likely wouldnt change in the near future. Pivoting to Turkey is arguably a good choice given our position (though some people might disagree) of having to stay in the middle and not choose sides, because if we do chose sides, it would most likely guarantee an invasion on either side (which certainly would be a very bad day for the nation)
old news by this point, cant be bothered to find a recent one
Erdogan to Indonesia, PTDI and Havelsan Establish Partnership to Work on AWACS Aircraft
its for alternatives basically, to not put all of our eggs in one basket. Additionally its worth mentioning that we have wildly different fighter squadrons, each of them are familiar with different controls and aircrafts, it could be that the rafales will be sent to the west and the F-16 for rearguard duty, the f-16V can also just be a stopgap for the KAAN, maybe, but who knows.
For the KF-21 its more like “we already invested this much money into it why not get a small amount, rather than burning our money on it and got nothing in return”.
Which technically not true since we learned a lot of tech from the project, but thats a background thing, there needs to be something physical to justify its price, otherwise the public’s opinion would probably be like “you spent this much money and only got information?”
