As a part of IndoDefence, Rosoboronexport (most likely on behalf of Russia) offers quite a lot of military equipment for Indonesia, namely:

Air Force
Su-57E
Su-35 Gen 4++
IL-78MK-90A tanker
Ka-52E

S-350E Vityaz and S-400 Triumf SAM system.
Pantsir-S1M

Army
Mi-17

Navy
Project 636 (Kilo-class)
K-300P Bastion Coastal SAM
Project 22160 Patrol Boat
Project 20380 Tigr Corvette

worth noting that these were only offers, just like the J10, nothing in concrete as of yet, although the Su-35 deal was rumored to have been completed, but who knows

I wouldnt bet on it. Its still an MOU and Indonesia has had a history of MOUs and then losing interest later on like the Boeing MOU for 24 F-15EX or 12 Mirage 2000. I would personally wait until a Letter of Intent is signed before any confirmation is made.

yep we love MoUs, no consequences no requirement, we just say we want it and we might get it in the future. Su-35 deal for instance, been stuck in limbo for the past few years, and only recently we got a deal out of it (rumors). But its not losing interest thats the problem, its losing money.

the KF-21 we already invested money into it, not a lot but still noticeable amount, and im fairly certain we’re not gonna let that RnD cost go for nothing (domestic RnD for it kinda failed), unless of course the shitshow that went down throughout the development for the reason why we walk, which is quite plausible, and as I said before, even the longshot F-15EX is more plausible than the KF-21, and the F-15EX hasnt had an actual concrete news since the announcement lmao

Hopefully TNI-AU still purchases some KF-21 even if they do decide to go with the KAAN, and tbf if the KAAN is successful, its a pretty good platform without any of the strings attached like with the KF-21 so I do kinda get the point why Indonesia would do this.

I think it’s even more interesting than that, because it seems to be the only Thai F-16B ADF specifically.

here are some more details and future plans for the P8 Light Tank from PT. SSE’s own Director of Technology

you can read it in Indonesian here:
https://x.com/Robe1807/status/1933760848738333185

1. The project started since 2016 and it includes the Cavalry branch for suggestions and advice from the future operators

2. The sensor suit applied surrounding the tank is the LW 40000 LWS made by Nero Industries from Turkey

Image

3. The rear radar is the Echoshield Multi-mission 4D (can detect Ships/Aircrafts/Human/Large-Nano UAV w/ 30km range (Made by Echodyne, US)

Image

4. There will be 10 variants of the P8 which will be developed, namely: Scout, C-UAS, UGV, Scout ATGM, Ambulance, Autonomous, MLRS & other unspecified versions. And as it is the tank currently has a version of the AGR-20 APKWS installed

5. The MLRS was delayed due to the weight of the launcher causing problems , even though the application and cabling of the turret was possible. They will reevaluate the MLRS platform.

6. Next variant will be 100mm shorter to better accommodate the new weapon systems and sensors for the future.

yeah about that

Finalization of the revised deal for the KF-21: Reduced share from $1.168 Billion to $438 Million. $21.9 Billion must be paid within 90 days of the contract and we’ve transferred approx $6.86 Million as initial payment

Agreement includes alternative payment structure, as well as assurance for the purchasing of 48 aircrafts w/ PTDI involvement remaining in the project.

So the original plan was i think 50 aircrafts with provision for more in the future (dont quote me on that), but as things stand itll most likely be only 48 and no more (maybe even less)

Additional note is that if it were real and we were to buy it, the money must be diverted from another fighter jet

purely speculation up to this point, the most likely option would the most expensive one in our plans, unfortunately that plane would be the F-15

it was supposed to be our entry into buying 5th gen US fighters, but with KAAN it doesnt really have a purpose anymore so i kinda understand why its getting cut. Personally if we dont even get the J10 we would still have a decent arsenal of equipment for the future:

  • Rafale
  • F-16V (if Indonesia can somehow fenagle themselves against Lockheed by using Turkey)
  • KAAN | future 5th Gen (subject to change)
  • KF-21 | Interim 4.5 Gen (subject to change)
  • Su-35 | pseudo 4+ gen (maybe)
  • Su-30/27 (although these may be retired earlier than the f-16)
  • other strike/trainer jets we have

ngl i’d rather us not going for either J10/F-15 and just gone full in on Rafale & collaborate more with the Turks, especially if we’re planning on making our own fighter jets, those two nations are most likely our best bet for people who wont easily throw a “hissy fit” regarding our use and procurements

(also yes, apparently the rumored reason why we’re so adamant on the KAAN is to get its Turkish-engine so we can make our own shit)

decent opinion on the KAAN/KF-21 for Indonesian jet fighter manufacturing (long read)

My only issue with that plan is, Russian + western tech. Cause as seen from India as an example the forming of a full DL and communication system isn’t exactly easy even for India’s high budget. It would therefore make much more sense to say go for a full system, along side AWACS and ECM equipment. Also Rafale and F-16V or KAAN and KF-21 seem to be very contradictory in their roles.

we did tried a unitary system once, first the soviets era jets (which we are heavily in favor of), they were then not allowed to be operated during transition to the new order, primarily due to a lack of spare parts as well as political maneuvering, this leads to one of the worst readiness period of our time, with only 1 (yes 1) fully combat-ready fighter squadron in the early new order era. Then once things got better and plateaued a little bit later on we got hit hard by sanctions and restrictions on our equipments

as such both western and eastern equipment have some horrible downsides for us:

  1. The western problems

can simply be classified as extremely expensive and hard to obtain (due to us not being an “ally”), extremely restrictive (in the form of use and what tech we got) with the equipment often lacking things which makes it peer-to-peer with our neighbors (for the longest time we dont even have Aim-9s) as well as being easily cut off if the west deemed it necessary (incase of sanctions for instance).

  1. The Eastern problems

This can be simply explained as hard to maintain and obtain, which sounds counterintuitive, but for the first point, lets take our Sukhois for instance, the engines needed repairs, so instead of fixing it in Indonesia, we have to ship it all the way to Belarus (or Ukraine), wait for it to arrive there, wait for it to be fixed, wait for it to be shipped, and then wait for it to be operated again, a very long time. Fun fact our Sukhoi readiness is quite bad nowadays, and a majority of our Hinds aren’t even in flying condition, certainly not good. Additionally any new and shiny things we might get will eventually be blocked by CAATSA so majority of our procurement has been a benign one, with the Su-35 rumors now popping up with the new US admin in charge, you know the one who seems to a bit relaxed on Russia (due to ‘reasons’ i guess)

Its worth noting that the sukhois would most likely be retired in the coming years , it is not a future plan for us (atleast not what I think from our procurement directions)

for this we do have plans with Turkey, I’ve already explained plenty before, but to simply explain, we will get closer to Turkey, that is not an opinion, that is a definitive fact. This change has been in motion for the past years, and most likely wouldnt change in the near future. Pivoting to Turkey is arguably a good choice given our position (though some people might disagree) of having to stay in the middle and not choose sides, because if we do chose sides, it would most likely guarantee an invasion on either side (which certainly would be a very bad day for the nation)

old news by this point, cant be bothered to find a recent one

Erdogan to Indonesia, PTDI and Havelsan Establish Partnership to Work on AWACS Aircraft

its for alternatives basically, to not put all of our eggs in one basket. Additionally its worth mentioning that we have wildly different fighter squadrons, each of them are familiar with different controls and aircrafts, it could be that the rafales will be sent to the west and the F-16 for rearguard duty, the f-16V can also just be a stopgap for the KAAN, maybe, but who knows.

For the KF-21 its more like “we already invested this much money into it why not get a small amount, rather than burning our money on it and got nothing in return”.

Which technically not true since we learned a lot of tech from the project, but thats a background thing, there needs to be something physical to justify its price, otherwise the public’s opinion would probably be like “you spent this much money and only got information?

Apparently the selling point of the bomb kit is that it doesn’t require integration(apparently it’s controlled by PDU without the need to talk to the plane) so they doesn’t need to upgrade plane systems to handle it. I supposed anything that can carry mk.82 could technically carry it. Heard gripen is not yet officially certified tho. Don’t know about system limitation.

pretty big news today, for the first time an Indonesian pilot had completely flown the KF-21 in the front seat.

(Our pilots are usually the co-pilot during flight tests, not the primary one)

there is also a new LTV (Light Tracked Vehicle) and apparently it would compete with the P8. Its being marketed by Republikorp, not SSE (which created the P8), though currently its still only a scale model & renditions

Image

with its hybrid propulsion system theoritically it can reach up to 142km/h going forward and 50 in reverse, though in practice it would be around 90 km/h going forward.

The P8 took ~2 years for the prototype to be built, so who knows, maybe this new LVT would be around the same timeframe
