new reports of the Indonesian Navy trying to procure the ITS Giuseppe Garibaldi Aircraft Carrier, rumored to include the remaining AV-8B+s of the Italians (roughly 6/8 + possible spares of ITS(or maybe USMC))

On the naval side we’re quite close to both Italy and France so honestly i can see this going through, but no disrespect to the harriers, personally i dont think its the wisest of decision considering its accident records has its own wikipedia entry as well as the age of both the ship and the airframe.

Additionally this decision is most likely the result (or perhaps part of) the Indonesian Navy’s Chief of Staff visit onboard the carrier in 2024

This is a very irresponsible statement. You can’t ask a group of non-native English speakers to come here and communicate and debate in a language they are unfamiliar with. Or to appear superior by mocking Chinese forum users.
In my opinion Tieba is more like the r/warthunder channel on Reddit - an informal community of gamers, where user sharing and comments don’t have a substantial impact on the game. But there’s no reason to think that the official forums are any more “superior” than that.
If the Chinese sub-forum here had more of a role, it would definitely have more users participating. But right now it seems to be more of a platform for translating game announcements.

Are you finding 中文分论坛 - War Thunder — official forum ?

Before they bought maybe they can ask the Thai is their aircraft carrier worth it, I don’t really think they need a aircraft carrier unless someone need to take some benifit in the deal

Honestly i’m suprised its only been recently that we’ve intended to get a carrier (or LHD)

For Thailand it might seem not as beneficial, but for Indonesia, which is almost quadruple the size of Thailand with a whole lot of ocean separating the islands, its probably more worth it

not only for power projection (because lets be real thats why we’re trying to get it in the first place), but also for QRF and humanitarian missions, such as during the Aceh tsunami where the carrier USS Abraham Lincoln played a key role in delivering supplies and rescuing survivors

Seahawks of the USS Abraham Lincoln in Aceh (2005)

our LHDs such as the Makassar-class can definitely do these, but the carrier can also be beneficial for R&D aswell since PT.PAL planning on building LHD’s in the future, and with the asking price of around $250million-$390million its ‘relatively’ cheaper than buying a newer LHDs or other carriers. Not to mention that some of our fleet commands are quite lacking in number of warships (notably the 3rd fleet in the east) which could use some reinforcements

Don’t know but it seem quite fishy to me, who is the target you want projecting your power for at first? Israel? This power projection thing is just not so related to the ASEAN region for my opinion, we all know our limit so we don’t really try to interfere any issue out of our own bourdary that is why you don’t see your government cooperated with our government to stop Myanmar killing Rohingya so that they stop coming to our country and causing tons of trouble. From my point of view, if it isn’t corruption then is just the leadership is just feeling good to themselves and don’t see the downside of it, they more likely end up in the situation like the Thai navy which letting it sail cost a lot of money but letting sitting at the port also cost a lot of money

Personally I think there are some merits to having an aircraft carrier despite not having much use for it as a purely power projection role.

Its basically a floating city and despite how the Indonesian archipelago would seemingly make it seem that they could simply just rely on smaller land based airports, Indonesia is still flanked on the west by the Indian Ocean.

The disappearance of Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370 couldve probably been solved if there was a large enough aircraft carrier to serve as a base for patrol aircraft. That was the biggest hurdle in the search efforts since patrol aircraft needed to return to the airports, they cant search for very long. That was but one example aside from humanitarian assistance, though the question of if TNI Navy can afford to procure and maintain such a large asset is another one but tbf the Italians really have good offers so that could offset the costs. Indonesia still has to settle completely their obligations to South Korea anyhow as well for their contribution on the KF-21 project.

But AV-8 for SAR? I really think the LHD is more effective for a Civil & Military hybrid role, because it have larger interior space than the CV

the AV-8s are not for SAR, and the aircrafts is not the main target, the carrier itself is what we’re looking for, the harriers are what we call “pelicin” in Indonesian, basically a free add-on or bonus item to go along with the carrier to smoothen the sale. 2-for-1 sale in a way

If the carrier is purchased then most likely we would probably station drones and turn it into a drone carrier or primarily use it as a enlarged-LHD and we cant really get an actual LHD because of the aforementioned costs

It’s going to be upgraded to which block? 72?

unknown currently, most likely Özgür package since thats what the Air Force wanted. Makes sense since we’re trying to get closer to turkey + the president wants to join the TAI Kaan program. If it were the Özgür then its most likely be around block 70

EDIT:

additionally I feel its best to mention that there is a fresh rumor of two new fighter jets type (as in new ones we haven’t used before, but not the one you would think!) deals being done and just waiting to be officially announced, the source of it is quite reliable so i’d believe it, but again nothing concrete as of now

new info of the Indonesian AMX-13s to be upgraded for the umpteenth time by Turkey. This isnt the pindad amx-13 retrofit (yonkav2) but another modernization program. So i guess this would be the 7th iteration of our AMX-13s, which is insane. Those museum pieces will continue to be on service for eternity i swear

105mm or 120mm on the AMX-13?

120 is a bit excessive for the hull, so most likely stays 105 but with more modern FCS and other upgrades. besides the agreement was apparently only completed a couple months back, so the program is still in its infancy phase.

Wouldve preferred to add more Harimau MTs but apparently the cockerill turret is like half the price of the tank so thats why we havent bought more, and storage leopard 2s are getting harder to come by so theres not really much option tbf

for ground there’s nothing really worth noting currently compared to the Navy or Air Force, army is busy making new infantry div n regional command so they most likely have the budget to splurge on armored vehicles

I mean, there’s sweden with their stridsvagns that tank anything shot at it that isn’t KH-38MT.

There’s a whole ass sea that SEA need to defend, Indonesia putting their foot down with some harriers certainly isn’t going to hurt.

looks like a single 404 with old drum magazine to me.

Indonesia just needs to bring back the Jong
