Sons of Attila - Rumor Round-Up and Discussion (Part 2)

The outermost wing pylon [not wingtip store] can only carry AIM-9s. I forget it translated to AMRAAMs due to weight.

Image

This image is from a declassified navy manual it clearly shows both AIM-7 and AIM-9 on the outer wing pylon

So 6x AIM-7 stores.
I was wondering why I remember someone saying 8x AAM loadout when it has 8 store positions.

Again the inner wing pylon wasn’t used for A2A weapons until the AMRAAM, it has 6 harpoints for A2A weapons with the option of a double rail for AIM-9s underwing

Doesn’t matter if it was used in service IRL or not.
All that matters is what the manual says.

Ok but the manual I’m referencing says no A2A weapons on the inner wing pylon

That’s what I mean when I say there are conflicting reports, it may not have been wired for A2A missiles until later, the F/A-18 was in service for a long time and received many updates, modern manuals won’t reflect it’s capabilities from before the gulf war, before it started using AMRAAMs.

It’s the same on the live. 1 circle beast

For some reason not many people use it in air rb.

Isn’t it kind of a BRICK?

Agile brick

It’s one of the best planes. Suits the meta very well. Insane radar & 90+ deg gimbal limit, you can’t really notch this thing, not easy. Basically a missile slinger. Busted engine and vtol to outdogfight anything.

But yeah, not many people have it

I can’t imagine it actually out dogfights the MiG-29 or F-16, VTOL is a gimmick when it comes to dogfighting but it doesn’t really compare to being lightweight

If they are dumb enough to keep turning with you, you get to fight them at stall speeds. Same with the harrier

Yak 41 can use afterburner at 50% nosle angle

I mean yeah, but you can beat a bad pilot with most aircraft, I managed to 3 v 1 an F-14, M2K and K2000 in a Barak II on the dev server because they were bad pilots, it doesn’t mean I’m a great pilot or the Barak II is a great fighter, just that I was better than my opponents.

BTW, I was referencing the F-18C, which is the likely one we’d see first.
A solid reminder that the first AMRAAMs were in use in 1991.

The F-16AJ is similar in design to the Mitsubishi F-2… so it is a far better place holder until the Mitsubishi F-2 arrives in game…

“Then again I don’t want to give them any ideas like that, or they’ll end up skipping the F-2 completely for some obscure proposal…”

Dont be silly… the Mitsubishi F-2 and even the F-15 have already been confirmed to come in later update(s)…

So, enough of this nonsense…

I know that however the only two F/A-18 kills during the gulf war that I know of were with an AIM-9 and an AIM-7

The fact is both for historical accuracy and gameplay reasons it makes more sense to use the 2 - 6 AIM-9s and 2 - 4 AIM-7 loadout, with no A2A missiles on the inner wing pylon.

Along the lines of this:

This game isn’t a historical battles simulator, and Gaijin won’t change their loadout rules for the F-18C.

What rules? They don’t have a specific set of rules for loadouts, they tend to try and keep to historically accurate loadouts up to a point but game balance always takes first priority, I don’t see how keeping it historically accurate breaks game balance in this case so I can only assume that it will be a historically accurate loadout

No. No tech tree aircraft has empty stores.
A-10 forces me to say tech tree.
And F-18C would be balanced with all of its 8 stores positions loadable.
