Sons of Attila - Rumor Round-Up and Discussion (Part 2)

We arent though. F3 and Viggen are getting their ass handed too them currently. Sweden’s best solution mgiht be a norweigan F-18 or something

Gripen can take 4 Skyflash. That’s… kind of something, right?

ahhhh bugger me. i feel like that demeans the whole point of a “minor” tree.

Toooo be fair, most all aspect missles will kick your ass if you don’t flair, in that since the R-73 is nothing special. It’s just that in the close range dogfight the R-73 is definitely gonna surprise a lot of people who still don’t understand what there dealing with. Very nice tho that the F-16C gets HMD, cus the Aim-9L is still a very solid missle

Not really doing much for the F3 currently. Might be better on a platform that can turn though. etiehr way, I think it was just paused tilll AMRAAM, or soemthing else went wrong with it

F-15s are legit just faster F-14s with better radar.
Still can notch the radar missiles, still on 9Ls.

The Tornado isn’t a dogfighter so that makes sense. Viggen is getting its shit kicked in? That’s odd, sounds like an issue with the Viggen then.

Germany is waiting for the top shooting gallery of OBT from 2020.
Also, China received 2 full-fledged OBT in 2023 alone:

They lose the Phoenixes mind you, but then again I suppose it depends on how much value you attach to them.

Fairly certain they can turn very well too, maybe better than the F-14. They might be a missile truck, but even the best Britain could field, like the FA2, is still going to have a very tough time against that,

From what I understand at least. Though I basically see none these days. at least in ASB.

My presumption would be that the issue is that the Viggen has baseline Skyflash, which just has no way to challenge anything armed with AIM-7F/R-24R or better missiles. Unfortunately Sweden didn’t get another radar missile until AMRAAM. I don’t think the flight performance is a match for the 4th gen’s either but I don’t have it and don’t see it often enough to guess.

The additional armour is quite modern but beside the armour, higher pressure chambers of the barrels and better ammunitions and now 100 PS more as well as APS systems the changes that Russia only incorporated on tanks such as T-90M as well as T-14 are concerning the tanks systems that lead to increased combat value by increasing situational awareness, interconnection with other tanks or units perhaps even to tactical levels, hunter killer ability, remote controlled machine guns, better software and hardware in everything regarding fire control / target acquisition, enhanced day and night fighting ability including the driver etc.
Here T-80U was comparable to western tanks in the 80s and now T-90M seems to be but everything in between was lacking in everything but perhaps armour (disregarding T-80B with weaker base armour than T-80U), fire power and ammunition.
Here T-80B’s and various T-72 variants have been upgarded in a way that is beneficial to the Russian army in it’s spread over the fleet combined with affordability and shorter retrofiting times.

oh dont get me wrong the flaring bit is fine. its just the fact i worry that something like a Phantom will not have any sort of computer assistance to warn me of an incoming dose of skill and that I should probably think about “flares dispense”

I will be relying entirely on seeing it and, as with most things in aviation, new things and new equipment often means you can find new ways of killing yourself (i promise I was trying to quote Tremelling there)

That’s a point, Even SkyTrash ST is struggling at the moment, Regular SkyTrash is really going to struggle

Good book

Yeh they turn very, very well for its size. Sea Harrier might one turn it based on an F-15 coming in with more speed. but you are gonna struggle to outstick an F-15.

Exceptional I think you mean.

Yeah, at high speed, you’d be fine initially, but I think over a protracted dogfight, you’d bleed a lot of energy and the F-15 wouldnt
