True. Having a simple loadout real life vehicle crew carry would suffice for vehicle crew in War Thunder as well. And yeah hopefully they make the maps bigger.
This can work. We already have a somewhat attempt to realism with how the death camera shows the player fall into the ground when killed which might be an indication of Gaijin’s will to make it realistic which should also bring such realistic features to the game as well.
It’s not that new tbh. War Thunder uses the assets from Enlisted which has been in development for years.
They also have two other infantry games, Active Matter and CRSD: F.O.A.D.
If bots are in make them player controlled via a commander role or a squad leader role.
Maybe even command the squad of NPCs that come out of your IFV like a drone.
This point is by far what I want to see the most.
War thunder as a game needs a bit of spicing up, and this infantry mode is the perfect answer to that, I just hope it has a feeling of progression so we’re not stuck with the same ‘capture 3 objectives’ we’ve been playing for years.
This leads into Asymmetric battles and so on, but Enlisted has nailed the concept imo, having a map that’s taller/longer on one side and allowing chunks to be unlocked with new objectives as you suggested, would really add some flavour to the game.
Some of my favourite enlisted campaigns really nail this, especially berlin.
Gaijin can add AI to make the infantry mode more lively but I dont want them to be in a squad system. Like make them react to map pings and “T commands”. But please everything but the enlisted system
Don’t quite know how you expect this to work without the AI squad mechanic?
Captain puts his crew to sleep and exits the vehicle, if the need arises he wakes them up
And not just tanks, IFV’s & APC’s too which would allow for the use of bigger maps. If we want to be really fun then let people use utility heli’s to transport squads.
As a suggestion not on your list - infantry should have been folded into Ground RB’s maps instead of needing their own separate ones. Existing Ground RB maps would offer infantry a ton of space to move around in, and provided the buildings on existing maps were replaced with ones infantry could go inside (and tanks/bombs could demolish), it could help fix longstanding problems with Ground RB at large.
Namely, the fact that it favors city combat, which is practically suicide for tanks without infantry support. War Thunder would show people exactly why with infantry being able to get inside all the buildings and put a bazooka through a tank’s roof with relative ease.
A lot of infantry weapons also happen to use the same warhead types as several tank ammunitions which have been frankly neutered quite badly over the years, especially HEAT (what panzerfausts and bazookas are) and APCR (what anti-tank rifles are). Grenades of course are small bombs. To make all of those work well both against infantry, and to ensure infantry could defend themselves against tanks, this would demand a restorative buff of all those ammo types, which would help fix a ton of problematic tank BRs.
And then more broadly, War Thunder putting infantry on the existing tank maps would help set it apart from a lot of other shooters which use cramped maps.
For sure another mode like lone wolfs from enlisted cause making 1 guy do everything doesn’t make sense at all or wouldn’t work right especially after they put in effort to rework the squad mechanics
Add subcaps for infantry (capable by vehicles as well and vice versa) on all maps you could have mixed battles GroundRB with infantry this would make heck of a game with vehicles finaly having a counter in the cities so no one holding an ngle would be safe and just how easy to kill is the infantry with HE shells from bradley etc this would make a nice gamemode
Edit a solider to have loitering munition or a bazooka/rpg/SPIKE yes spike portable launcher like IRL would make a lovely game
It would take a lot of time to re-design these maps, however, I really like the idea. You have the possibility of reinvigorating maps that we have basically been raised on when it comes to war thunder. You honestly could have the best of both worlds. Gaijin has put so much effort into redesigning them… why not at least test it out and see how the community responds?
I thought a cool thing would be if a player had unlocked a top tier vehicle they could use that in custom battles in infantry mode, as an example if i would have a strv 122b+ in normal wt i could use that tank in infantry custom battles. Same for sep v2, then there is an actual reason to use TUSK ii.
Many people have grinded very much and it would be so fun if me and my friends could use our favorite vehicles in infantry custom battles against each other
Same for aircraft, if they would make maps bigger it would be awesome if we could use our favorite planes aswell!
(Mind this is only for custom battles as the current top tier vehicles would be very op in the normal mode)
It would also be cool if they added landmines that you could select and add to your loadout.
Not only that, but also in order to make infantry playable against tanks which are not locked behind dumb SP walls, HEAT postpen damage would need a substantial general buff, thereby making bazookas/panzerfausts/RPG-7s much more playable against tanks and also fix a metric ton of tank BRs which only sit as low as they do from HEAT postpen currently being terrible.
I disagree a lot of the time in this CBT I got one shot kills on tanks… infantry has the edge of being stealth enough and in building to get a top attack hitting the ammorack or from behind etc. buffin this would be too insane
Hmm, well if that’s the case, it shows just how appallingly bad HEAT(FS) postpen is from tank rounds if those have not been changed at all since infantry launched. Because surely a 5-inch-wide HEAT round should do a lot more damage than a man-portable RPG-7.
There’s still no news about how the battle rating system/ grind works other than some of the data mines showing how its guns that you research to unlock.
I suggest that gaijin can go deeper in a way which is very unique. Since infantry tech trees are gonna be divided by nations, I propose that gaijin adds infantry battalions which we must grind for, and each battalion unlocks specific divisions which you can play followed up by armored divisions which you can grind in as well. and as for weapons give each division their respective weapons and maybe more additional weapons ( which were historical) can be grinded and switched between
now yes gaijin probably wont go ahead with this and somehow if they do decide to the grind will only get longer.
BUT I feel like this makes more sense and is more historical than grinding specific weapons, and the thing with weapons is that the variety in each nation will be very limited and mostly be a copy paste of mostly dominant nations. Furthermore, I think that it would be an incredible showcase of each nation’s infantry battalions/regiments and divisions.
