Honestly I’m fine with them. The F/A-18D is so much sexier than the F/A-18C, the MiG-29N is fun (give 9Ms please) and Su-30MKM is also pretty cool. Would I like them to be more unique? Yes. But I wouldn’t say their additions ruin the tree for me personally.

They killed the “originality” of it being a Japanese tech tree. If you look at the number of Japanese expansions in the last year, Japan has disappeared; now it’s the ASEAN (?) tree (I don’t remember how to spell it). Why use the Japanese F-1 when there’s a better C&P A-7E or modified Alpha Jet?
Why use the F-1 when its 10.0 with no 10.0 GRB lineup? The A-7E also doesn’t have a ground lineup, only the Alpha Jet A / TH.
Also for Air, the A-7E sucks and the Alpha Jets have bad FM. F-1 is better than both in air.
Honestly, I don’t disagree about ASEAN Subtree just like how I don’t disagree about the Commonwealth.
But, man, seriously, Gaijin is choosing the worst way to use subtrees. with double standards too.
I’m really wondering why Gaijin is just concerned about modern C&P things.
For us, P-400 Caribou/Airacobra, Merlin mustangs, and Lend-Leased Shermans are outdated, long overdue. Well, if Gaijin thinks the addition of a Canadian sabre a bad C&P, we have a side option such as the CAC Sabre, which is armed with 30mm ADEN instead of 50cal.
And for Japan, maybe they could add some weird kink c&p things, such as captured British buffalo (along with British buffalo), or MiG-29N which @Zulizia mentioned. Instead of adding Su-30.
reshuffling prioritisation might be fine. I think.
I liked Mossies from the last update, even though it acts C&P if we only think about roles.

I admit, I haven’t played jets much. It’s not for me. The Kikka is too difficult for me to use (and for some unknown reason has a gigantic repair cost of over 11,000), the R2Y2 is… hopeless at 8.0, the Ki-200 is weak. I can’t play the F-86, and in the T-2 I have a heart attack when I’m suddenly killed by an enemy missile.
Honestly I’d really like the Su-30 eventually with Indonesian P-series bombs

Use Zunis as makeshift flares, really upgrades your experience in the T-2. Otherwise take advantage of your supersonic status and zoom ur ass out of there
You know, there are too many WW2-era vehicles in War Thunder. There’s no significant gap in the fourth column of the Japanese tech tree. The divine snail decided that only the highest tier and the sale of premium vehicles for $99.99 matter. I hate Gajin for screwing up this game. I understand adding modern vehicles, but Gajin ignores so much technology, mechanics, and vehicles that it’s insane. There are no electronic warfare systems, jammers, anti-radar missiles, and tons of technology and vehicles. It’s just a race to the top tier as quickly as possible.

Good advice, but I’m still terrible at jets. My AIM-9s never hit, and the only thing I’ve ever shot down with the volcano was an ally by accident (I don’t even know how).
Add Su-30/Su-27 anyways imo, my main point is if a country operated it, they should get it. My issue with the subtree is adding only copy and paste first and not anything unique.

Certainly more unique than the Israeli M109s and Japanese M42/M19A1 and M4A3s.
Some, not all. China is still arguably more unique than Japan, especially factoring unadded Chinese vehicles.
Yes, that is why I say one mixed China+Japan+Thailand+etc nation would be the best option.
The vast majority of copy paste would be removable. Yes, some required copy pastes will stay, but the neccesity copy pastes are perfectly fine imo.

Both the U.S. and Thai Stingray have a place in Warthunder, both from a historical perspective, and a lineup filling perspective (well, Japan already has a 9.3 light tank but you get the point).
However, if you’re so keen on removing the Stingray on the basis of copy paste, the Thai one has less legitimacy in WT.

So the one actually in service is less legitimate then the prototype/ demonstrator tank that was never adopted into service? That’s certainly an… interesting… take on it.

I don’t think America had anything to do with the Skink anyways, it should be removed from the U.S. tree.
Neither the Thai nor the U.S. Stingray should be removed. There’s many copy slops that should be removed even though the nation used em, e.g the non American M44/55s. The producer should get priority over operator, as it’s literally called the tech tree.
Neither should be removed, Stockholm was just being silly.
The Stingray was not a technological advancement for Thailand. Being the sole operator just barely earns it a non-copy paste slot in the tech tree imo.
Already said, those non implemented vehicle will not fill the gap but only putting pressure to those existing vehicle in the game right now. More importantly, there is impossible to a nation that copy their technology from others countries become more “unique” then a nation that literally developing the tech themselves.
That is impossible since if this happened the only option is Japan as main tree + China & others nations subtree which the PRC players definitely won’t allow.
We can’t even get an F-2 late, as the one we have is already the latest version, lol. We’re just waiting on earlier F-2s now sadly. (Although the current one does have lots of equipment it can still get.)
