Hello, this is a post about how fictional skins should be shown by default with the option to turn it off instead of the other way around. Sit back and have a read.

You can change whether you can see fictional skins or not in the options, so players can choose whether to have their games be more immersive or not, which is great.
As of right now, fictional market skins in war thunder are hidden by default settings, so only historical or semi historical skins are shown to player’s eyes in game.

The problem is that most players never even touch or find out about this setting in their lifetimes of playing war thunder. Which means that probably 90% of players will never see fictional skins forever, except for the small margin that found the setting, and changed it instead of leaving it.

If no one sees your fictional skin, then buying a fictional skin from the marketplace or earning it becomes pointless because it would be the same as downloading it from war thunder live for free without buying or earning it. It feels like this situation suppresses the artistic visions of the skin creators, having their skins hidden from the player base’s eyes even though it was taken to the marketplace.

With that being said, my suggestion is to change everyone’s settings to show fictional skins and have a popup once-time reminder upon opening the game telling players that they can choose whether fictional skins will be shown or not. If they know they don’t want to see them, it’s their choice, and if they don’t mind, they can ignore it. As for the people who have the fictional skins, they can choose whether it will be showed to other players or not when equipped. Brightly colored fictional skins are a disadvantage by making you easier to spot anyway.

Compared to game mechanic changes and new features this takes little to no time and effort to implement and should be an easy fix. Let me know if you agree or disagree and if you do agree then feel free to support this change to help these beautiful fictional skins to have more visibility.
Thank you for sticking around and I hope you have a nice day!

Personally, I disagree with the suggestion overall. I understand the idea behind it, but I think and opt-in is better than an opt-out. A lot of War Thunder players care heavily about historical immersion and already dislike fictional or visually loud skins, so adding more visibility mechanics around them would probably be diagreeable to these players.

I also don’t fully agree with the argument that players buying fictional skins should expect everyone else to see them. People buy cosmetics for different reasons, including personal enjoyment. On top of that, the game already partially handles this system anyway: equipping a fictional skin automatically enables fictional skins for you to see on other players as well, giving players a degree of choice and control without requiring them to even know the Settings exist. In fact, in practice this becomes effectively persistent, since buying your first fictional skin and using it in a gamemode immediately sets the skin visibility setting to “any” indefinitely unless manually changed back, meaning players who engage with fictional skins are already opted into seeing them on others as well.

This is pure speculation. Fictional skins are always visible to PC players when looking at the skins options for vehicles which have them. Many players could be unaware of the setting, but as decals and skins are a major component of WT I personally don’t think many don’t know about these options.
