Doesnt really need to be longer ranged. Just… better
Like AH-64Es with 16x Hellfires with 8km range and FnF (not even necessarily mmVs) that gives US and Britain a FnF heli on par with something like the AH-60 with 16x Spikes.
Or buffs to Tpods, give Gen 3+ tpods out instead of new weapons
heck, even things like CBUs. The ability to saturate an area with bomblets means that you dont have to be as accurate. Something like a Tornado ASSTA1 (a rather weak top tier CAS) could streak in and deploy MW-1 and be out again before the Pantsir could react.
But even just bug fixes, like getting hellfires modeled right, could make such a difference
But I respect the… implications of it and why it might not be able to yet
(though I really want them to explore the idea of locking weapons out of ground modes, but allowing them in Air modes. So this could be added and its no balancing concern, or give them a crazy high SP cost or something)
Neither Pantsir-S1, the missile launching* range is the double of the maximum missile range and about 2.3x of the guarantee range. So no, not a SPAA can counter Su-25SM3,
Although, it only works for firing in such distances in open maps, which is not common, as Gaijin forces the players into closed urban maps.
Though at those ranges the KH-38 is firing at a point on the ground and not the target right? So if it moves, it misses?
For tracking a moving target, you would need to be a lot closer, Based upon experience in the Harrier Gr7, that can be as close as 12km (even closer on poor weather maps)
It is MASSIVELY weaker than IRL, both in terms of handling/range and seeker performance. It should be far far harder to chaff than they actually are in game.
The fact Aim-9L and Aim-9M are no where near IRL performance in terms of flare resistance and we have primary sources to confirm that. Even basic things like the Aim-9M having a far shorter lock range still hasn’t been fixed after more than a year.
Compare Pantsir too… ADATS. Or the absolutely nothing Israel has at top tier.
yet lobbies are still 90% deaths to amraams at top tier, amraams would be amazing as an spaa especially when you are also given 9Xs…
The AIM-9M itself would be a good SAM as it is. the 9X would be overpowered.
I am dying laughing at the state of the game where ppl are trying to justify 1 nation to get amraam/9x spaa just because russia has pantsir not noticing that the other 8 nations arent getting shit lmao
Or maybe, I’m trying to get the other 9 nations to have usable top tier SPAA instead of only 1 nation being viable?
US & Israel - SLAMRAAM
UK - ASRAAM slinger
Japan - Type 81 can get ARH I think
Germany - IRIS-T slinger
Sweden - has something similar but can’t recall off the top of my head what it is
The unknowns left are Italy, France and China. But I’m fairly certain china has something and Italy I think has a good option from Hungary. France I’m not sure…but I think someone told me they had an option too
Heck, so long as they all come together and not 2+ years later like with the Pantsir…I’m sure even the soviets have an option for upgrade over the Pantsir.
This video demonstrates exactly why AGM-114Ls would be way too broken for the game. If people are complaining about manually locked IR missiles like this, think about how playing against much faster, radar guided FNF missiles that can be aimed and salvoed by the radar. Fixing the issues with the Hellfires already in game (or adding a really nerfed version as Movran suggested) would be a much better option to avoid more CAS powercreep.
Germany doesn’t have one yet (the one showcased a few years ago was a mockup), but they have a prototype based on the boxer planned for 2027 IIRC. Sweden does have two potential top-tier SAMs though.
EldE 98 (Giraffe 1X)
4x IRIS-T SLS with a range of 10 km and an AESA radar with a 75km range a 70 degree elevation. Eldenhet 98 (Giraffe 1X)
BAMSE SRSAM
6x RBS 23 missiles with a range of 20 km. No radar, but has an IR search and track camera, and can recieve targeting data from external radars if Gaijin decides to add datalink as a feature. BAMSE SRSAM
And if we want to go down that route, Norway just bought an IRIS-T SLS based SPAA with a radar called NOMADS which is probably going to get added to Sweden at some point (or maybe Germany depending on how much the German mains cry that they deserve it for some reason like how they do with every other vehicle that includes some German tech)
Idk about other nations, but the GALIX smoke launchers used by France and Sweden contains chaff which would make it possible to block the guidence by popping smoke.
