so far the only way to research helicopters is by pve and tanks, but it isn’t possible to do it with planes. Why? You unlock the first helicopter by either having a tier 5 tank or a plane. So you should be able to research by playing planes too especially since helicopters are aircraft

It used to be only helicopters that could research helis.
My guess is that air mains wouldn’t see much of a use since helis can only be used in ground realistic, ground arcade assault and Heli PvE.
Would be nice though to be able to research them via planes. Maybe naval as well once naval helicopters are more prevelent.

Maybe that would change with aerial warfare mode and players would be able to use heli in this mode just like we were able to do during SEAD event

I hope so.
Seeing as gajin is also working on subs, maybe they might get some use in naval as well, especially since we now have a vessel with a helipad (Cassiopeia).
Maybe we might even get the Japanese rotorcraft with depth charges
i feel like helicopters in naval would be useless, since they would be at the same br as toptier battleships
They could always adjust brs for naval like they did with aircraft.

the whole naval tech tree needs a rework because either way ww2 and ww1 battleships at the top while cold war destroyers at the middle

Something needs to be changed yes but going by era alone is probably not the best since some cold war destroyers are purely guns.
Also coastal would suffer imesurebly if split by era.

It work for tanls though? You have many cold war tanks fighting ww2 tanks and some ww2 tanks fighting cold war era ones.
It’s the same as in naval where the BR is determined by capability not just era.
most of tier 1 is interwar, most of tier 2-4 is ww2, most of 5-7 is cold war tier 8 is modern

Yes because that is how capabilities scale. Take a look at the pbv 501 and bmp 1. One is 6.7 the other is 8.0 The same vehicle but one has an atgm. Same for the amx-13 (7.0) and amx-13 HOT (8.3).
BR based on capability is more balanced and fair than purely era based ones.
