Should the F-15A Eagle receive the AIM-54? Any thoughts

If it was only tested on this particular aircraft, meaning just a NASA version that they usually use to test stuff, then no.

Fair enough.

Im conflicted on this as i both:

Would like to see more experimental designs and weaponry represented in war thunder, as well as all ordinance options a vehicle had actually being available (Gaijin please add the AIM 132 ASRAAM the harrier GR7 it needs it if you want it to stay at 12.3)

Would not like to see more phoenix missile spam in top-tier ARB. F14s have made 11.3-13.3 ARB incredibly predictable, frustrating and boring because you know you are going to have to multipath for the first 6 minutes of the game because 70% of both teams are just AIM 54 slingers, the F15 getting them would mean that now even 13.7 isn’t safe from phoenix spam.

Never in my life have I had to rely on multipath to dodge a Phoenix lol.

I play harriers at thar BR dude I’m slow as hell so its my only defense

You can also just straight up avoid going middle. Go around man.

No this was a test vehicle and heavily modified. The Aim-54 also had its warhead removed and just carried sensors. Nasa gets to have losts of fun with older tech for research, but it is not anywhere combat capable.

Brother, that’s an experimental F-15B

Bait.

Not difficult to defeat them even without MP. Spam is only occurring due to the REAL FREE TOMCAT event reward.

im not baiting with wanting to see ASRAAM on planes that were armed with it. the more ammo types the better, makes things less stagnant than everything either being a sidewinder, spaamram, or R60/27/73/77.

the aim 54 spam was happening before the event was announced and sucked hard even then. the free tomcat event has made the issue more obvious. I also saw a level 35 player with the IRAF tomcat a few days ago and I wanted to just uninstall the game, it took my 1.5k hours to get to top tier and some kid got it in two weeks and has a superior plane of the same BR.

I also use Harriers at that BR both the FA2 and GR7, they are slower than everything that isn’t the poor SU25sm3 also 12.3 for some ridiculous reason so dodging them with speed isn’t a realistic option, I have to be so low my pilots shoes are scraping the floor to keep safe.

You have no clue how stupid imaging infrared will be. Nobody else is getting it anytime soon, and no reason for Harrier GR7 to get an undodgable death laser.

So hear me out. The AIM-54 is not something ground breaking. The TT F-15A should not get that and we should keep that a simple F-15A
BUT we should get an event F-15N with the AN/APG-70 and AIM-54’s. Would be one more cool event vehicle

While we’re at it, pls add Kh-31 to Phantoms.

(Just joking)

How many does it Carry you ask 3

it faces AAMRAAM in uptiers which are close to undodgable in most situations, I’ve never had one miss when I’ve fired from under 4km and I’ve hit from 35km a few times too. an FPA-guided missile with notably less range on a plane slower than all fighter counterparts in the game would be crazy powerful if you go near the nose of it, but its an easy plane to avoid due to its leisurely pace, its still a shorter range missile so wont be like hitscan

Learned to notch and chaff, or just multipath it?

I know how to, most of my deaths to them are from getting third partied or when I’m over terrain that I cant safely multipath over. AMRAAM is notably chaff-resistant compared to a R27 or sparrow. Allthough I favour facing them over Pheonix and Farkour volleys. I tend to take the GR7 out to 13.7 when in a squad while I’m grinding towards gripen

correct me if im wrong, this thing carried a single AIM-54 and a single AIM-54 only.
