This for me has been a problem for many years.
We have the KA-52 in ground battles spamming rockets as it dies…Should it be able to fire its weapons would the necessary components not be damaged and prevent this.
Air RB with ARHM we are seeing more and more jets on fire spiralling (considered severely damaged) using the HMD and firing off the rest of their missiles getting cheap kills.
Suggestion is a more detailed damage model for aircraft, we have linkages for control surfaces model fire control for the weapon systems.
This would stop the spite plays which no one likes.

That would be extremely annoying, taking a single unlucky 7.62 and being completely useless until you go repair

If an aircraft is alive, it should be able to fire weapons
However, aircraft have absurdly durable pilots. FAR more than any ground vehicle. You can throw 120mm AP rounds through a prop engine into the cockpit and the pilot will ignore it. If they are going to retain this, a black fuselage should be an istant kill like pilot snipes currently are. No chance to drop ordinance.

Personally I think that if the kill message comes up that should be the aircraft dead and unable to drop bombs or shoot.

Once the “aircraft destroyed” message comes up, and if the pilot is still alive, the player should lose all control as an animation of the pilot ejecting plays.
Nobody is going to stay in their smashed plane with the guns pressed down hoping for a lucky kill instead of trying to bail and survive.
I honestly think less of players that spin to the ground with their .50cals spraying circles.
Take your death like a man.
No. Taking control away from the player is always bad. We are our crew, and we make their decisions.
If the pilot/crew is not dead or bailed, then the vehicle isn’t dead, and therefore should remain under whatever control is still available. The recent Severe Damage system has already solved all but the most extreme niche examples of this issue.
I would, however, be in favour of better modelling of internal systems, such as electronics, hydraulics, etc similar to the recent tank additions, as well as aircraft weapons actually being able to take damage. It’s very odd that weapon damage is such a core part of tank/ship gameplay, yet impossible on aircraft, despite weapons being modelled in the x-ray.

At the point where the ‘aircraft destroyed’ message pops up, there is no coming back.
All you can do is fire your guns in a death spiral.
But I agree on more detailed modeling of systems.
As long as the pilot is alive he should have all controls that are still intact available to him.

With that logic, tank crews should automatically bail out once they notice a loaded plane flying directly for them, like irl.

Imagine instead of 50 cals it was radar guided missiles using the helmet mounted display.
guaranteeing several more kills while there aircraft is crippled
There’s an easy answer and it’s:
…yes.

I’ve done this, and it rarely works how you think it does. When you’re stalled and spiraling down, unless the dude flys at you and closes all the distance, the AIM120 isn’t gonna do anything, it’s simply doesn’t have the juice.
