The old forum link to the J-8 thread.
I will add photos of each variant and elaborate briefly on the changes made to each model at a later date here, in this comment.
With current discussion of the capabilities of the J-8F as well as other J-8 variants in full swing in light of recent discoveries regarding PL-11 use/ potential of MAW, it seems prudent to center the discussion in the correct (albeit unused) thread.
Starting off, I have a bit of an oddball question. Is the cockpit of the J-8F incorrect? Cursory search into the J-8s has lead me to a variety of old blog-posts & forums, including this: the cockpit of the supposed “F-8T” export variant.
(also found on this blog)
Does the J-8F use the same cockpit? or did they copy a different variant?
The information in my thread is a few years old now, the cockpit of the J-8F is seen on CCTV so I’m sure someone can find a pic for comparison
I’ve seen the following photo around as a “J-8F” cockpit floating around, though its both poor resolution & edited so not exactly helpful, especially with how bad info on this jet is.
That being said, the J-8F shares a similar cockpit to the F-8II-M or J-8H (seen below), the PFD on the right should instead be an in cockpit RWR display.

Looking more into it, it seems like the J-8B cockpit (and RWR) may also be incorrect. The current cockpit
looks like the original J-8II/B cockpit:
However, The J-8B we have in game is the J-8B (Block 02), evidenced by the Type 802A radar / BVR capability. Among other things, the Block 02 seems to have an updated cockpit with KJ-8602 RWR.
Meaning, we have something of a weird hybrid between the two.
(admittedly, I am shamelessly ripping this from a DCS forums post which may itself be flawed, this needs more research.)
On a more positive note, we have several photos of J-8s carrying the KG-300(?) ECM pod on the centerline station!
In addition to the old photos of the KJ-91 trials, there is also this other photo with a KJ-91 presented in front, suggesting the weapon was successfully integrated for operational use:

This F8T version is used in game. The actual J8F should have two MFDs instead of one MFD+one CRT.

This may be the old J8F(or J8III) cockpit, and HUD still uses knob operation.

Then it is as I suspected- the J-8F (& likely J-8B Block 02 in game) have the wrong cockpits. Some of the only vehicles with unique Chinese cockpits too, that’s definitely an oopsie.
Kind of surprising they used the cockpit of the “F8T”, that’s a variant of the plane I didn’t even know existed before yesterday. One must wonder where they got their references for it.
F-8T: a export version J-8F.
Perhaps Gaijin simply believes that the two versions of the aircraft are completely identical.

The RWR antennas of the 3d model correspond to the current system in-game
First block of the J-8B with mounted PL-5B and PL-8 as well as PL-11 on the ground, could indicate it used the latter
The original radar was insufficient to effectively use the weapon, even though it could technically. The block 2 is much more capable but still poor at only ~18km detection range at best and no LD/SD proper.
