Shenyang J-11, J-16, J-15, History, Performance & Discussion

Well, no beautiful close air battles, but we will launch the PL-15 and PL-12A at high altitude from two mach like on the F-15E. And throw a PL-10 behind your back

In any case, we will be superior to almost any Western aircraft of the 4++ generation, the later Rafale, EF-2000, f-15EX. It’s the same with Soviet aircraft, except for situations with close air combat. The supermaneuverability on all axes will be very strong. The SU-57 will be much better in close air combat.

I wouldn’t be so sure of such claims. Sure, China will be competitive, but that statement doesn’t really stand.

The PLAAF have evaluated air-combat and simply do not believe that TVC is necessary, nor is supermaneuverability.

Instructor: “Why would you enter a dogfight?”
Student: “Because I have supermaneuverability!”
Instructor: “Because you’re stupid!”

This is beyond the point. This is not the J-35A or J-20 thread.
So do not make such claims.

If you want to know more a J-20 discussion thread already exists.

I understand that some of you aren’t too familiar with Chinese 5th generation aviation, so I can answer some of your concerns in there.

Same applies though, such as this might have influenced their decision to not go with R73 styled missile and use PL8B instead, they feel it is unnecessary to have this sort of manoeuvrability.

Yes.
The current battlefield situation is way too complicated for an actual dogfight, because if you enter one you are likely to be shot down by the opponent’s wingman anyway.

It is worthy to note that PL-10 is a high off-boresight missile with thrust vectoring, so in case that an enemy fighter is behind it can still hit it.

Fights will be fought in BVR, and if both enemy fighters survive BVR encounter they will simply retreat, the risk of losing good pilots and machinery will likely not make them merge into WVR.

Anyway, moving back to the thread topic.

An incredible plane and one that I hope to see in game one day.

48 is fine, just don’t bring chaff and don’t fly too high

WTF do u mean by

even if u fly low chaff is still voluntary cause F15s can ignore ur multipath if they are high enough.

J-15T is my new favorite Flanker.

Single-seat canard with low-vis paint, and modernized avionics + radar.

Switched to WS-10H (naval WS-10) engines as well.

So from this it will be 8 * PL15 (if it can be mounted on air intake and between) + 2 * PL10 (it can’t be mounted on wing tip) + 2PL8B max?
Edit: nevermind, it can go on wing tip as seen from JF17 Block 3. So 4 PL10.

My favourite thing about Sino-flankers is that for the most part they ditched the hideous soviet cockpit paint, should make them a joy to fly in sim

It’s 8x PL-15 and 4x PL-10, so very good BVR capability if the rumors of it using J-11D AESA is true.

PL-21 in the future or are the PLANAF not bothering with those?

I also like the newer Sino-Flankers visually for their NATO-style low-vis liveries.
Grey Flankers look incredible, such as J-16.

PL-17/PL-21 is mainly for larger targets like AWACS. I’m not sure if they can work effectively against fighters.

Agreed, personally I was never a fan of soviet multi-colour camos since grey is the way for modern fighters

it just uses J-11D’s design for reference. the bevel fairing is said to be a stealth design, so it just means its design has some air superiority consideration

it can as long as it’s fast enough, like Fakour-90.
