“Last I heard JH-7A has its best munitions already”
I was responding to this sentence, not that I want the PL-8B and PL-12 on the JH-7A. What I do want however is a late variant of the JH-7A with both the PL-8B and PL-12 since Russia now finally has their SU-34, it’s inexcusable that China should be restricted whilst Russia is allowed to roam without a leash.
It’d also would be 13.0 with the PL-5E IIs/PL-12s & the regular PL-8s or 13.3 with the PL-8Bs/PL-12s.
That string was in the context of air to ground as that was what I was replying to.
And “best for the BR” exists as well.
Anything better than PL-8/Python 3, AIM-9L, etc will inevitably be worse for the new BR because you step away from airframe performance BR the more you add.
Since the news of J11B and J10B, I started thinking again, can we make another petition for the current tech tree to be modified, cause if I have to do Mirage 5EI, and buy it to research J10B it would be so frustrating. Like 2 weeks of labour for nothing.
PL-10 will probably only come for J-10C, or a mid-life upgrade airframe of the J-10A that includes the JKL-24 AESA radar and integrates PL-15s for it as well.
50-50 chance the j10b doesn’t get anything for air to ground, actually it’s got the same air to air loadout as the A so they’ll probably give it pl8B’s and call it a new plane.
No, that’s not what I need. I mean “widely equipped”, let’s say what is the radar used by the vast majority of J11Bs? I and many Chinese military enthusiasts think that it should be the Type 1493, and the Type 1474 is only a small part. But here it’s the other way around, so I’m wondering why and what the specific sources are. After all, you know, a better radar will make me have more fun :)
PESA radar is probably just rumor originated from western media since I have not seen any talk about it from Chinese sources. Also why upgrade to PESA when other PLA aircraft are already using AESA radar. On Type 1493 vs Type 1474 there seems to be more people supporting it is Type 1493 as Type 147x is smaller size radar fit for medium fighter like J-10.
J-11B uses the Type 1493 radar.
Keep in mind the last two numbers of the designation refer to the diameter and the generation of the radar. Type 1493 is a direct successor to the Type 1492 used by the J-8F, as it is now third generation while the J-8F’s radar is second generation. And both radars have a diameter of 900mm.
J-8F’s radar ingame has the ability to provide datalink to 6 missiles at once, so it is very good in capability. J-11B’s radar should have notably improved range with some sources stating the detection range is up to 150 kilometers for a fighter-sized target.
