Shenyang J-11, J-16, J-15, History, Performance & Discussion

Its both

Has anyone any information on the new J15s? Seems like in the videos of 001 and 002 dual carrier strike group footage they have a new paintwork similar to that of J16, but lighter in colour

It’s J-15B, a fully upgraded one using some of J-11D’s tech/design

You can think of it as J-16 engine + avionics in the J-15 air frame.

Does anyone know if j-16 or j-11d better for air to air

IDK about J11D, but J16 definitely has PL15/17 equipped so should be better although those weren’t present when J11D came along.

I think you have a J-16 with your missiles

Theoretically they could utilize triple racks under the wings for an additional four or six missiles but there is no point, no one will ever take off with such a large number of ordnance in real life.

You’ll have enough fuel for 10 minutes

triple rack for which missile?

Technically we’ve never seen a J-16 with double rack pylons, at least for AAMs

This should be for rockets, the rails are too short.

I’m aware, I was just stating that it is a theoretical possibility to mount that many missiles since to my knowledge the wings can support the weight… and developing a triple pylon would not be very difficult for the PRC.

We could make the assumption for double racks since we do see them on the J-10s.

WS-10 powered J-15T carrier aircraft arrived at Zhuhai airshow.

Still waiting for J11B RN. Looks great though, I love this low visibility cammo.

So cool 🤤🤤

Just wanted to say the best Flanker China could recieve may possibly be the J-15B instead of the J-16 and simply due to features from the J-16 being incorporated into the J-15 whilst being a single seat derivative with a canard design.

The canards in-game on the SU-34 makes a pretty notable difference and this could be the same for the J-15B.

It’s designated J-15T officially. You are correct that J-15T would be quite a menace, though. The original J-15 was already notably lighter than the Su-33, and the J-15T is likely to be even lighter by incorporating more composite materials. There is now confirmation that J-15T will use WS-10 engines which are anywhere in between 135-147 kilonewtons of thrust, which would give it very respectable thrust-to-weight ratio. Couple that with high AOA capability and low stall speed of naval fighters (especially a naval Flanker) it would be pretty deadly in a dogfight.

J-15T’s avionics and radar fit are supposedly from the now-canceled J-11D fighter. While the J-16 is a multirole aircraft, the J-11D is a pure air-superiority Flanker. So the J-15T might end up even better than J-16 versus other aircraft.
