The J-16’s radar advantage is largely irrelevant in War Thunder. On a 128km x 128km map, there’s simply no practical value in having a radar with a 400+ km detection range against a 1m² RCS target (which reflects the latest J-16 batch’s radar performance. It’s known that the J-16 has undergone at least three radar upgrades, with the earliest batches featuring a 200km detection range against 1m² RCS). PS: The N035 radar is poorly regarded within the PLAAF—a well-known aggressor squadron in the Southern Theater Command has failed to win any internal “Golden Helmet” exercises since re-equipping with the Su-35, even repeatedly losing BVR engagements against J-10Cs (powered by AL-31FN engines).

Yeah thats pretty much what im getting at. In terms of WT the J-16 is most likely going to be second to the SU-35 but real lift is a completely different thing
I mean the Chinese su35 only has rvv sd… missile with only half the range of pl15 and around same range of pl12. Not surprising it loses in bvr.
Plus su35 has crazy rcs even though it has rcs coatings
Which is a shame, but once again, we get both so it’s a non-issue

The russians only ever provided the PLAAF with basic R-77s no?
They bought it with su35 no? I doubt they got another batch of rvv ae for their su35
That’s not the issue, as the aggressor squadron operates under special rules allowing them to adjust AAM range parameters to compensate for the RVV-SD’s limitations. The reality is, even against the J-10C’s ECM, the N035 radar remains virtually unusable.

I’m aware, my concern was whether the PLAAF operated R-77s or R-77-1s, and that has been answered already
I’m excited for both the J16 and Su35S tbh, I do quite like the camouflage on the 35S the PLAAF has. I do however prefer the domestic missiles 110% of the time, hence a leaning towards the J16. The only thing I don’t want to see is the J11BG and Su30MKK (MK2 would be the only acceptable option of the two Su30’s imo). J11BG wouldn’t offer anything over the current J11B currently besides a radar upgrade and maybe better missiles in the future. Otherwise I have good hopes for the future of Sino flankers!

J-11BG should function as a Jaguar Gr1 to Gr1b style modification to the J-11B, unlocking a new AESA radar in rank 4

fixed plate aesa radar so t4 eft , gripen E , su35 will have the advantage in bvr due to their azimuth coverage.
