Thus: 21,940 × 8/9 = 19,502.2 kg, yielding an operational empty weight of 19,502.2 - 2,700 = 16,802.2 kg. Converting to basic empty weight involves two approaches: (1) Referencing the Su-27SK’s operational empty weight (about 17.3t) versus basic empty weight (about 16.8t) suggests ≈16.3t for the J-11B; (2) Using in-game data, basic empty weight calculates as 16,802.2 - 90 (pilot) - 30 (oil) - 96 (countermeasures) - 60 (cannon ammunition) = 16,526.2 kg.

So I was looking at the 小红书 and found a picture of the J15T… But the top… The fabled countermeasures hath revealed themselves at last. Unfortunately seems like still 48 though
why? su-27s is already 16300 kg
The J-11B simply cannot be over 1 ton lighter than the Russian counterpart
It’s only ~300kg lighter than its in game rn.
And its not surprising at all. Chinas aviation industry is much more advanced and has overtaken the Russian aviation industry long ago in pretty much every field

This just really isn’t true, they have only passed Russia in a few areas. Once their newest engines start seeing serial service maybe they can say they have parity.
And yes, the J-11’s in-game are a bit light imo.

J-16/16D use the WS-10B in serial service they dont use anything else.
But that is why I said “* in pretty much every*” not “in every field” chinese engines dont have the same maturity as the Russian ones
But in every other field the Chinese are ahead
From material science to production capacity and domestic designs stealth technology etc
Russian tech is stuck in the 80’s and is reliant on western electronics

Russian tech in the 80s was ahead of US tech at the time, China didn’t even have a domestic fighter. Existing Chinese airframes are modernized, Russia is not behind in the material sciences as far as I can tell… but they do not have the $$$ to mass produce anything hyper modern yet. Neither does China, that’s why they’re flashing around their prototypes for 6th gen.
Regardless, no improvements in material sciences suddenly make the J-11’s lighter with the composites and radar absorbent materials. They have already shown that moving towards these composites made the J-10C heavier than the J-10A. This conversation has been had many times already. The WS-10’s are generally heavier than the Russian counterparts currently and the use of composites is not nearly as widespread as claimed. The vast majority (98-99%) of the frame is still original with minor modifications. Major sections are not being replaced with lighter composites.

Definitely a decent chunk of the air frame is made of composites, although I’m pretty sure this would be j11b (late).

These are composite panels, look at the pictures with exposed airframe
These panels are also likely heavier, incorporating more radar absorbent materials and cheaper / stronger ones as well.
