China copied off the Su27 IRST originally which is partially why in the tech transfer of J-11 IRST wasn’t part of it. After that it’s a guessing game much like the radar.
Might be worth it to DM the CN coordinator Monika_in_action , CBR managers got the habit of asking for sources even on things that devs used guesswork.

If necessary I am sure we can find some sort of memoir mentioning sth like it was a successor of the su27 one. I’ll give it a look first.
the excerpt from the book i just posted says ols 30 is a development of the irst of the 27k (su33), which itself was a development of the irst on the su-27. not sure where to source stuff for the j11 tho
We had a few sources say the 613 institute has already copied the Su27 IRST prior to the purchase of production licenses as the Russian officials held on pretty tightly to that part, and the Chinese as they already got the copy, didn’t insist. It is then only right to assume the J-11 IRST is off the Su27 one and J-11B wouldn’t use anything worse.
Although probably again it is guesswork.
@Grimtax the excerpt of the book I posted shows that ols 30 is a further evolution of ols27k, which it self was an evolution of ols27, which means that at the very least ols 30 should be a copy paste of ols 27. The book I provided was already used to bug reports before so it should be a valid source. As for j-11b, I am unsure if it should be a ols 27 copy paste or if it should be better.
J-11(A) (cause no one knows what the actual designation is for the fully domestically produced version) has OLS27 copy, IDK why it would be worse but so far I can’t provide sources on J11B, and Gaijin doesn’t allow guess work although I can’t think what they have used to make their conclusion any more valid.

I hope Gaijin can seriously rework the current Chinese top tier SPAA or just make a new and better SPAA that is fit for the top tier environment.
finished spading the relevant part of j-11b, gotta say its a real nice plane to fly.
Having maws is such a nice to have, as well as it having the best maws in the game.
the better high altitude/high s[eed performance is nice to have for bvr in arb, and the pl-8bs imo are some of the best ir missiles (although i really wish it had seekershutoff irccm instead of gatewidth)
and all of this on a lvl 3 - 6 crew
I really wish it had a good irst though, irst on this thing is basically useless being a mig 29 copy paste
also the userskins on this thing are real nice
level 6 non experted pilot after 4 g turn in a top tier jet

yeah died quite a few times from just crashing into the ground locked out or just unable to fire cms lol. when i first started spading it i only had 2 bars filled in the g tolerance thing/
