Shenyang J-11, J-16, J-15, History, Performance & Discussion

Half decent chance that they just make the planes and if there are ws10’s available they put them in and if there aren’t they put in the al31’s.

it’s never a good choice to test too much new things in one time, especiall in navy environment. so it’s better to start with a proven engine. current J-15T are mostly pre-produced version for testing and training, wr may see mass-produced version with navy WS-10.

The J-15T are already in mass-production, with at least 30 airframes (min. 3 Batches) already built and in service.

Whats actually new and still in testing is the J-15DT. I am still waiting for more pictures, so I can finally make a suggestion for it.

Id almost wager that the J-15D is just a Carrier capable J-16D with canards

It even has the same “sharkfin” behind the canopy as only seen on the 16D

J-15D(H) already exists, the J-15DT is new. Wing tip Jammers on both seems to be different from J-16Ds.

J-15D / DT

J-15DT however looks like it also has the new Radar, which was also installed in the J-11D and J-15T (i.e. angled radar cone), making it my personal most favourite two seat Flanker :D

I can’t say I’ve ever heard of the 15 D(T) and D(H)

But in my eyes the radome on the 15D and 16D look identical. There’s even some images of the 15D with the same jammer as the 16D

Every last detail all the pitot’s and markings are the same

How many variants of the J-15 are there? Im aware of the Base variant (J-15), the Electronic Warfare one (J-15D), the tandem seater J-15S, and the new J-15T.

Is there a variant that can act like Su-33 in game and be at the same BR? Like one that can just have R-27s or other SARHs like the PL-11? imo id kinda like to see an evolution of it shown in game. Like an early variant, the regular J-15 and then the crown jewel for a naval line being the J-15T.

Cheers :D

And then there’s J-15S shares more commonality with the J-11BS

(Sorry didn’t mean to reply to you)

I was talking about the DT, not D.

Maybe because there are only two pictures of it so far.

However, here the newest (and clearest); also note the sharkfins now share same color with the vertical stabs.

Hm, hard to tell.

The image you linked as a DT seems to be the same aircraft as the one in linked, both are marked “93”

The only difference is can see is that the 15D uses the newer Aurora 2 HUD

That picture was only related to the Wing tip Jammers…

This is J-15DT:

Ahh ok. i misunderstood

But as you said there’s very few pictures of the supposed 15DT

But the only discernable thing i can see is just a different paint job. or am I missing something?

After a quick giggle the difference seems to be its CATOBAR capable, compared to the old STOBAR ones

Here’s an explanation courtesy of someone on reddit
"T = Tánshè (catapult, or CATOBAR)

D = Diànzǐ (electronic)

H = ramp / ski jump (I doubt “huáxuě” though). The confusing part is that this is a different “H” to ‘hai’ / ‘haijun’ (sea / naval) - but at least all PLANAF land based aircraft have transferred to PLAAF (except for MPAs and AEW&Cs like KJ-500H)."

This 405 this is just getting worse now…

I mean this, maybe I used wrong terms, “early blocks” maybe better

could be a modification of the 16D’s jammers to hold up better against conditions on and around an aircraft carrier

or different requirements for the PLAN

antenna layout different, should be a different design based on different requirement

The new premium Swiss hornet and f2 are both fake variants with no arh missiles so there’s actually a pretty decent chance we get one with pl11’s as a premium when the tech tree one is added.

J-15、J-15S、J-15D(H)、J-15T、J-15D(T)、J-15S(T)(maybe?)
Interestingly, the J-15S series has never been officially announced, despite its photos being widely circulated.

Id say it’s probably a modification to handle naval operations better. here’s a J-15DT with the same jammer as a J-16D

Integration for the sake of interoperability maybe, makes sense since naval aircraft don’t always operate out of carriers and realistically they could be on the same airbase as their land based counterparts
