Shenyang J-11, J-16, J-15, History, Performance & Discussion

no

the J-15 is based of a Su-33 prototype they bought from ukraine

I was talking about Su30mkk.

that one didnt use a prototype

It was based off a Su27M prototype. It was a bind of that Su27M with a SU27UB.

Not even Su-33, but IIRC prototype hulls

It should be T-10K-7

Wait where is it now? Museum or in an airbase display area?

I’m not even sure if it is available for public viewing

What version of the WS-10 engines does the J-15T have ?

Those are, unfortunately, AL-31’s.

You’re right, I didn’t even look at the engine nozzles…

I just assumed they’d be using a WS-10 by now

Still suffers from corrosion related issues, I guess.

Sad to see pretty pretty J-15T flying with crappy AL-31’s.

Interesting tho that some J-15T’s still use AL-31’s as the J-15T at Zhuhai had WS-10’s

Must be some early production models I guess

I mean I would have thought J-15Ts are in relatively limited production up to 2024 since 003 wasn’t gonna be ready at least until 2026, and for training and testing purposes not that many has to be built. WHen it enters mass production I would think they will start using WS-10s, although it could also be the case they converted a couple normal J-15s for the purpose. Also it is likely for them to use a special WS-10 since there is need for special conditions at sea.

Half decent chance that they just make the planes and if there are ws10’s available they put them in and if there aren’t they put in the al31’s.

it’s never a good choice to test too much new things in one time, especiall in navy environment. so it’s better to start with a proven engine. current J-15T are mostly pre-produced version for testing and training, wr may see mass-produced version with navy WS-10.

The J-15T are already in mass-production, with at least 30 airframes (min. 3 Batches) already built and in service.

Whats actually new and still in testing is the J-15DT. I am still waiting for more pictures, so I can finally make a suggestion for it.

Id almost wager that the J-15D is just a Carrier capable J-16D with canards

It even has the same “sharkfin” behind the canopy as only seen on the 16D

J-15D(H) already exists, the J-15DT is new. Wing tip Jammers on both seems to be different from J-16Ds.

J-15DT however looks like it also has the new Radar, which was also installed in the J-11D and J-15T (i.e. angled radar cone), making it my personal most favourite two seat Flanker :D
