Shenyang J-11, J-16, J-15, History, Performance & Discussion

I expect the 1493 radar to behave like a 1473 but with 150 km, range and in 60°x10° and 6DL

If that’s the case that is already alright for me, actual characteristics are of course classified and there are little official sources, it is probably the closest representation possible.

normally yes the 1473 and 1493 are radars of the same generation as the 1493 and released later

There are multiple radar models between the Type 1473 and 1493 – they’re not parallel developments of the same generation.

Spoiler

btw I have no clue what happened to the Type 1472 – it was probably phased out during development and replaced by the 1473.

lol

don’t you have any references to support. i tried to search for the official articles, reports or documents about type 1493 radar’s performance before but failed.

Well, I’ll tell you why I think so.

  1. In terms of weapons, I am referring specifically to air-to-air missiles. The R-37M is a very good missile, and its performance is about the same as that of the PL-17. The R-77M can also be said to be sufficient for the requirements of Russia. But when will the fourth-generation IR missiles in Russia go from drawings to reality?
  2. Given Russia’s tradition of promoting military power, if they really used sufficiently advanced composite materials for the Su-35 (or other aircraft), then I would have known about it in various propaganda news. And in China, the production line of the J-15T openly uses composite materials, and the J-16 is still being kept secret, but it is clear that the technology used by the J-15T does not make sense that it will not be used on the J-16.
  3. The argument over radar systems is the least necessary. Most U.S. fighter jets still use GaAs AESA radar, but GaN AESA is already widely used in China (from the most advanced fighter jets to the most common trainer aircraft equipped with AESA). Why is the Su-35 still in service with PESA? As far as I know, only the Su-57 uses AESA, why hasn’t Russia replaced AESA for their fighters yet? Don’t you want to do that?
All data on the J-16 comes only from PLAAF propaganda, because this is highly classified equipment. So there’s no way I’m going to come up with authoritative enough data — I don’t want to go to jail yet. In other words, you can question as much as you like.

Outstanding

Can the radar track targets (with their search zone) in TWS mode?

Yeah

Great! Now I can rest in peace…

I mean, seems accurate enough to me.
War Thunder search range seems to be for 3 square meter RCS target, 120km is about right for that.
Amount of DL channels is pretty good though, 8 when I expected 6.

TWS+ nice

Maybe Gaijin wants to give us double pylons so that there are 8 rockets?

Issue on the gaijin website rn, the radar seems to be placed too far forward in the x-ray.

Finally

I doubt it, most likely they have given 8 channels to be able to recycle this radar and put it on the J-15 the laval version that has 1 extra pylon on each wing.

I mean, J-15 is said to use the same radar as J-11B with minor modifications for anti-ship role, so not surprising.
