Separation of tanks 6.7 from 7.7

Hello dear War Thunder developers and fellow players.

While playing at Battle Rating 6.7, I have consistently encountered a frustrating situation. Roughly every third battle, I end up at the very bottom of the matchmaker, fighting against vehicles with BR 7.7. This is something that worries not only me, but also my friends.

I am confident that many players who regularly play at BR 6.7 face the same issue — constantly being uptiered and forced to fight vehicles that are clearly superior. I would like to ask the developers to address this problem.

My suggestion is fairly simple: increase the Battle Rating of all vehicles at BR 7.7 and above by one full BR step. This would move top-tier vehicles to 13.7 and Rank V vehicles to 8.7. Such a change would not break balance — global BR increases have already happened multiple times in War Thunder’s history. This solution would allow BR 6.7 vehicles to remain at their intended rating, while BR 7.7 vehicles would move to 8.7, reducing the extreme uptiers.

As an alternative solution, the game’s matchmaking could simply prevent Rank V vehicles from fighting against Rank IV vehicles altogether.

As an example, I would like to compare French BR 7.7 vehicles with German BR 6.7 vehicles. German 6.7 lineups are among the strongest at their BR. Let’s take the Tiger II and the Somua SM as an example.

The Somua SM has significantly higher armor penetration and nearly twice the reload speed. Its maximum speed is also about 15 km/h higher, and its upper frontal plate has better effective armor (around 337 mm compared to the Tiger II’s ~301 mm). On top of that, the Somua SM has fewer weak spots — its turret front provides between 200 and 320 mm of armor, while the Tiger II’s turret front offers only around 180 mm.

Despite this, these two vehicles frequently face each other in battle, and the outcome is clearly unbalanced. The same situation applies to many other vehicles as well.

For these reasons, I respectfully ask the developers to move BR 7.7 and higher vehicles to higher Battle Ratings, while keeping everything below 7.7 unchanged.

KT is not useless against a Somua. It’s at a disadvantage as it should be, but it’s certainly not helpless. Uptiers are common at 6.7-7.0, but it’s nothing I worry about. Main thing is to have a) a lineup b) bring SPAA c) work as a team and play the objective. If more German 6.7s did this we would all be in a better place, and my stress levels would lessen. Your suggestion is also selfish. Many of those 7.7s would absolutely struggle if facing 9.0s in an uptier, especially those of the likes of M103/Conq/Maus. I’m currently playing 7.0 Germany (Flakpanzer/ KT10.5 / Panther2). And my squadmate has to bring his 6.7 lineup to 7.7-8.0, and he is competitive in every single game without fail. Here’s a video he just put out facing some of those French 7.7s in a KT.

I understand that tanks with a battle rating of 6.7 are competitively viable, but they are clearly inferior to 7.7 tanks, and by a significant margin. As a result, an average 6.7 player will simply be cannon fodder for 7.7 tanks, which is obviously wrong. You mentioned the selfishness of my proposal, and perhaps you misunderstood me. I want the battle rating of all tanks with a rating of 7.7 and higher to be increased by one. This means that 7.7 tanks would fight against the same opponents as they do now, but would stop encountering 6.7 tanks. I repeat: I am asking to increase the battle rating by one not only for 7.7 tanks, but for all tanks above that as well (7.7 tanks would become 8.7, 8.7 tanks would become 9.7, and so on).

This is only because your highest tank is 6.7.

Wrong. They would no longer face 6.7, 7.0, and 7.3.

The end result of this would be 7.3 becoming a “top tier” by having perma full down tiers.

dont bother. WT players seems to have an idiotic aversion to an artificial seperation of WWII and cold war vehicles

This is not how the game works, and it’s not a good idea

Has someone who plays the king tiger a lot, i will tell you this
Their is not a SINGLE tank you will see you cannot kill from the front, and in one shot

You absolutly have a fighting chance against ALL of the tank you face, infact many player argues for the king tiger to be moved up in br

Yes because It’s an horible idea, and the only reason you suport it is because you just died to a cold war vehicle and in your head that’s unfair

This is simply false, the king tiger absolutly has a fighting chance and a big one at that

The kt is in no way shape or form canon-fodder for 7.7 tanks, it’s armor is still capable, it’s gun can kill everything it faces in one shot at almost any range, it’s gun is extremly stable and allow for ego peaking, it’s an arguably overpowered pen-check tank

The 7.0 and 7.3 tanks aren’t significantly stronger than the 6.7 ones, so the fact that 7.3 will be top tier isn’t a big deal. At 7.0–7.3, the only really strong vehicles are the T-44-100 and the IS-3, and that’s basically it. Both of those can be penetrated without much trouble by the King Tiger and the Super Pershing, so I don’t see a problem here.

Obviously, when you have 200+ mm of armor penetration, you can penetrate all 7.7 tanks head-on. But when you face the T32E1 or the Somua, problems can arise. Against them, you’re almost entirely green and can penetrate pretty much anywhere except the upper frontal plate. Meanwhile, the King Tiger can only penetrate the Somua frontally through the commander’s cupola or slightly below the gun, into a very specific weak spot. The King Tiger reloads in 9.8 seconds, while the Somua reloads in 4 seconds. The T32E1 is almost impenetrable from the front for the King Tiger.

Your armor is less effective in full uptiers and more effective in full down tiers. Correct.

I suggest not trying to frontally brawl in your tank when you are in a full uptier.

6.7 gets some of the easiest full uptiers in the entire game.

Usually a heavy tank fighting a heavy tank 1 whole BR above it is a death sentence. However, thanks to the power of the long '88, this is what you can do to a Somua at 500 metres:

Surblinde? No problem.

Surbaisse? I mean…

Sure, they have other advantages. Mobility and reload speed above all. They should have those advantages, otherwise how could they be 1 whole BR above you?

Same thing goes for other nations. IS-6 can be pretty scary if it’s not facing you head-on. If it is, though…

Look, I’ve been playing German 6.7 at 7.0 - 8.0 for a long time now, and even in 8.0 lobbies you can decimate the enemy team. How many heavy tanks can say the same thing?

This is a nuke in an 8.0 match:

It includes two Somua kills, and sniping a Foch’s cupola to get the OHK thanks to APHE magic.

this just means you have to be more careful, the game allow for impossible possibilities of action and you are not stuck in a head on

I personally have no problem as tiger 2 player like even at 7.7 br range u can easy kill all enemy opponent like only problem u can counter as tiger 2 is your own idiotic choice am i wrong ?

I killed many times as tiger 2h frontally İs-4m

All I’m seeing from those screenshots is that you can kill these heavy tanks frontally. You just have to be careful about your positioning. You also have a much better reload than them.

I strongly recommend you take a look at the video I’ve posted and then come here and tell me that a Tiger II can’t fight in that BR bracket.

Cool. Now show this but with those 7.7 heavies vs 8.7 rounds

And the tiger 2 vs US 76 and Russian 85
