Separate Turret Control for Naval Vessels

SEPARATE TURRET CONTROL FOR NAVAL VESSELS

THE IDEA
Have you ever been in the situation where you are surrounded by enemy ships, left, right, behind, everywhere and all your cannons/turrets are faced one side? in these situations you don’t have time to wait for the turrets wich usually has extremely slow traverse speed to turn all the way around to the other side, usually you will be dead long before this. So this idea is as simple as giving players an option in the settings, to set an keybind wich, depending on the vessels can “lock” half of the ship’s turrets. For example on a battleship wich has 6x turrets, 3x located on the bow and 3x located in the aft, so that in close quarter combat can have one section of the ship ready to fire at threats coming from the other direction as well, increasing survivability by quite a bit.

For vessels with really slow turret traverse this would allow players to fight off several enemies at once, for example vessels like the French Arres, wich has two very powerful cannons, powerful enough to one shot most of the coastal vessels it faces, but very very slow turret traverse speed, so slow it is faster to turn the entire vessel wich most likely would end up in you dying. With this function, could have one cannon pointing in each direction, ready to fight whomever comes from either direction, something that could be useful when capturing a sone for example.

The player selects the keybind they prefer (For example ALT + Num 1) wich then freezes the turrets in the bow of the vessel and you can only move the aft mounted turrets, when you then press (ALT + Num 2) and the aft mounted turrets freezes and you can move the bow mounted freely, and when you want to return to the normal mode, with all turrets/cannons facing and moving in the same direction, you could press (ALT + Num 3) to reset the “Separate turret control”.

War thunder really needs this. The ability to control turrets independently was a crucial aspect of naval warfare, particularly in the era of battleships and cruisers. Historically, warships were designed with multiple turrets to engage different targets simultaneously, enhancing their effectiveness in combat.

Many ships featured turrets with only two guns instead of larger multi-gun configurations because this allowed for greater flexibility in targeting. A higher number of turrets enabled ships to fire at multiple enemy vessels or aircraft at once, rather than being restricted to a single firing direction. This was particularly important in engagements where threats came from multiple angles, such as fleet battles or amphibious operations.

Fire control systems evolved significantly over time, with advancements in rangefinders, radar-guided targeting, and centralized fire control improving accuracy and coordination. However, manual turret control remained a fundamental aspect of naval gunnery, especially before the widespread adoption of automated targeting systems

Sadly the old Naval aiming system where one could lock weapon groups 1/2/3 on selected targets of choice while firing one of said group manually was far better than what they have now.
Any change from the current would be good change.

With how janky aiming at close range is atm, I think this is needed until Gaijin fix the problem.
