Seeker of Type 81

The Type 81 seeker cannot lock onto an aircraft with just a few trees or obstructions. Why is this?

Because a tree obscures the target ?

If this the cases then explain why the type 93 can lock the enemy even behind the hill

It can’t

Sometimes it can, you just need to lock in with optics

Not through a hill

Yes it can I already try, you can still stay lock the plane even they fly behind the hill for half to one second

That’s just the lost lock timeout delay. Loses lock when it breaks line of sight, but there’s a short time where it looks to try and reacquire the target before resetting.

Gaijin doesn’t actually model image seekers at all. So the Type 81 seeker is modelled as a contrast seeker instead.

What this means is a target isn’t just lost when an image is obstructed, such as by objects directly covering it or by blending into the backdrop and becoming indistinguishable.

Instead the seeker sees contrast, and targets the biggest contrast in it’s field of view, which is ideally the target, but can be other objects around the target too as long as the seeker sees them, most notably the ground. When the target is close to the ground, the seeker picks up both the targets and the grounds contrast and because of that guidance is skewed downwards.
This is modelled in game by just making it unable to lock or track targets below a certain distance from the ground.

This will probably be fixed once we see imaging seeker mechanics added to the game, such as with more modern IIR (Imaging IR) missiles that will be more common in the game’s future.

It does in fact not lock, it tries to re-acquire the lost target in a predictive course
