Seal Clubbing and Smurfing in War Thunder

Out of all my friends who I tried getting into war thunder none of them stayed. It’s just the way the game is eventually it’ll die off as it hits its peak but overall enjoy it while you can.

I mean aren’t most MMOs like not plug and play?

That’s what they all say when the numbers don’t even drop significantly

Most are easy to get into War Thunder is not on that list.

It’s okay, all games come to an end eventually War Thunder is no exception

Lots of respect for the older gamers out there, wish there were more out there as video games aren’t just for children. I’m only in my 20s and sometimes this community makes me feel Old at times so it can be daunting to say hello or express concern and frustration amidst a sea of 14 year olds who think they are the boss.

I fully understand your annoyance with seeing some more hardcore players such as myself in low tier. It can feel like we are just there to abuse new players. Especially when the match has been turned one sided almost single handedly my myself or another long time player, or worse a 4 man squad of us.

Also glad to see that you aren’t interested in the grind, it’s an unhealthy relationship with the game to only be in it for the grind, whenever I get a new vehicle I treat it as a random new thing to mess with rather than the goal.

Most of us aren’t doing it for the sealclubbery, we just like the vehicles that happen to be at said BR and the floggings dished out are an unintended byproduct. Cromwell’s, rams and Churchill’s are my bread and butter when I’m not running about in a scimitar bullying MBTs and AFVs that should be much higher than they currently are.

I also agree that war thunder is an unbalanced mess of a game, had plenty of disagreements with people over which ones are on this site, namely panzer 4 with a long 7.5cm or the T-34

I do wish that war thunder taught players more before sending them into the ring to fight people with thousands of hours and thousands of matches in an individual vehicle as until you learn how to eyeball ranges, weak spots and other seemingly niche things that end up being a requirement (I’ve played for so long I couldn’t name them, after all do fish have concept of water?)

I appreciate the lack of skill based matchmaker in this game as not every match is a sweatfest but it has it’s victims too which is unfortunate.

This game has almost certainly lost millions of players from the awful learning curve, matchmaking process and sealclubs

I get it, as a Level 100 do go back down in BR but under stand I am there for one of three reasons.
1.) I’m burning a new country. I have top tier in 3 nations.
2.) I’m trying to reset my enjoyment of this game, Top tier is as many of us joke about “toxic” at times, sometimes we are just having a bad night and need to “reset” our game play.
3.) As others said, “enjoyment of a given lineup.” France/Germany/US 7.7 for example.

While others may agree or disagree with me, those are the only reasons I drop down.

We are literally having the same gun firing range without target customization for like since Ground battle came to the game.

Stat cards are literally useless as they have always been.

Crew level system… do I need to say more…

They indeed want the frustration to be the core of the game.

Top tier ground is not exactly fun. I like to take breaks from the missile hell sometimes.

Plus when gaijin gives me a low rank event vehicle, am i not supposed to use it?

The only useful information is buried is secondary screens or on statshark, a 3rd party webpage…

That’s if it’s even a spoken of mechanic, I don’t remember the last time I last say somewhere mention that the first round in a belt determines all autocanon or machine gun shot trajectory and velocity, so the “best” looking belt isn’t always best.

The wiki is useless too. There’s some things I’ve only found out from quite literally looking at the games code…

God I miss the old wiki man…

Agreed. It kinda baffled me when I found out that rangefinding isn’t automatically assigned a button and you have to figure out its existence yourself. War Thunder is in desperate need of a tutorial rework.

I just want to play low br sometimes , its not necessarily targeting new players. There are countless tutorials for you to learn from

PVP games are over-saturated.
All of the friends I got into War Thunder, the ones that quit hate PVP in general.
The ones that stay like PVP.

The game does assume you’ve played PVP games prior tho…

The tuffer competition is, faster you will learn. Focus on how they play, the high lvl players that kill you and do as them…

man this image is frying me. the raw emotion. btw what he said was skill based matchmaking

Only up until a point.

You can’t learn from your mistakes if you didn’t have a chance to make any mistakes beyond pressing respawn

I brought a friend to War Thunder a few motnhs ago and yes, i played reserve with him and then progressed through the ranks.
People can play whatever they like.

And I’m disgusted with ppl telling me that I’m not allowed to play vehicles I enjoy the most, only because I’ve spent some more time in the game than them…
Or, do you have any suggestion on what am I supposed to do when I want to play my favourite WWII vehicles without “sealclubbing, smurfing, etc”…?

There are several factors contributing to this issue, and I think Gaijin could do a lot more to fix it.

The tutorials really need reworking, at the moment they only tell you how to fly the plane, they don’t help you learn the tactics and different play styles that you need to know to be competitive.

New players are given a few games against bots before being thrown straight into playing against anyone, so they don’t get time to properly understand the game before being expected to deal with experienced players, I think this could be solved by not allowing players below lvl 15 to see players above level 30 or some other level based matchmaking

In my opinion, the grind itself is part of the problem, because it takes so long to get to top tier, people playing there are generally pretty good, so if you’re a player of average ability, to do well you need to play at a lower tier. By reducing the grind, worse players can get to higher tier without premium, and make playing at that tier easier for everyone.

Wagers and events also contribute, by being so grindy that you need to play to your advantages to complete them, forcing people to play their best rank 3 lineups to complete the event. I think that an event system closer to that of War Thunder Mobile might be an improvement, or at least make it so you don’t have to play 2 hours a day for 2 weeks

Because it’s a game about historical vehicles, just stopping people from playing lower tiers would never work, because people might have an interest in a particular vehicle (or want to play the low tier event vehicle they just unlocked)

I think by solving these problems, in particular making the grind easier, gaijin can make the game better for everyone, while also improving retention of new players. However I don’t think this is going to happen because gaijin makes their money from making the game so frustrating that people buy premiums.

Just because your friends got filtered doesnt mean the game is dying. It doesnt mean they were too slow to learn either, it might just not be their style of game

Top tier is a mess for too many reasons to get into. I’m a below average player so I’m not seal clubbing anyone. The lower tiers is where I enjoy playing the game so that’s what I’m going to do.

Now go back outside and yell at some more clouds.
