Seal Clubbing and Smurfing in War Thunder

First of all, I’m a level 11 player with no plans of ever sinking any money into this game. I’m in no hurry to grind up a storm to advance to ranks 2, 3, or 4. I’m an older person who probably won’t be here within the next 10 to 15 years anyway, which I’m sure you young whipper snappers would be grateful for. I have never encountered such an unbalanced game consisting of so many players that don’t give a damn about anyone but themselves, and maybe it’s a generational thing. From level 1 to level 11, I have never experienced so many seal clubbers, smurfs, and whatever else you call yourselves, using the excuse that you’re entering a game to grind a new country (HA). Meanwhile, I have looked at your stats, and the country you are supposedly grinding out has already been ground out.

I don’t know if some of you have chips on your shoulders and feel like you have to impress others in (reserve tanks) at level 100, or you have some other kind of hang-ups. I decided to look into how many people are or were at my level and stopped playing at my level due to all the butchering that is taking place in low-rank tanks. That total is in the 1000s. Where did these players all go? They left. Why? They probably feel the same way I do right now, where I’m being smacked around by level 100 players in reserve tanks or rank one, and unfortunately, nothing will ever change. We can’t forget the excuses that are always being used, like (I’m In A Game Teaching Someone With Another Tank To Play), meanwhile, nobody is even around the level 100s tank to teach. I’ve heard it all and have seen it all, and I’m as disgusted with what is taking place as all the 1000s of other players that have vanished and who have found other games that quench their thirst more than this one. I’m sure they would have loved to enjoy War Thunder, but all the seal clubbing that is taking place has discouraged them.

I’m going to predict something right now, which I know most of you won’t be able to control, that being you’re cocky (I Know Everything Attitude Responses) that will flood this post. Sadly, It’s very common in these forums. I actually will be able to take the beating, but a lot of these young kids get highly insulted and leave after you’ve bent over backwards to make complete a**es of them, and that’s what I despise most of all. In the end, Gaijin will do nothing to curb “Seal Clubbing or Smurfing or Uptiering,” and neither will the players have the sense to stay in the ranks they worked so hard to reach, which is really sad.

I’ve had it with this game and the way it’s being operated. You’re either pretty good at the game, or you’re absolutely terrible, all the more reason the seal clubbers need to stay the hell out of low-rank tanks and let everyone enjoy themselves and grind. Unfortunately, many of you are to self absorbed to control yourselves as seal clubbers or smurfs. It’s almost like a sickness now, and you can’t control it. As I said earlier, you worked so hard to get to ranks 3, 4, 5, 6, and higher. Stay there and perfect yourselves some more, and let these new players enjoy the game a bit and be able to grind without you being a pain in the butts destroying the game for them, and you know who you are. I’ve said my piece, now you guys can go on the warpath like you usually do and act like you’re so brilliant.

I’m going to continue to play this game, dealing with all the seal clubbers in existence, vision impaired and all, until the day comes when I’m 6’ under in my coffin.

In a lot of respects you are true in what you are saying. Unfortunately the game has been designed to be unbalanced and to make some vehicles practically useless to play along with the matchmaking and alleged balance of the equipment in the game. It is intentionally done to frustrate and annoy players into paying to shorten the grind or in the vain attempt to have the latest over powered vehicle for a month or so before it is nerfed and the next one pops up for 70 or more of your local currency.
Once you actually get involved and invested in the game it becomes an ever harder cycle of addiction to break and it is an addiction and is so for many unfortunate people.
It is best viewed as just something to waste a few hours or so if you really really have nothing better to do, it is nothing special as far as a gaming experience goes.
As for spending any of your hard earned cash it is wise to do nothing on compulsion or haste and sit and think before you spend any money.

That’s how it is when there are barely any community features besides squadrons and people only join them to grind squadron vehicles, a lot has to do with there being en economy system and stakes with your time.

Most new players go to play the big 3 nations and skew the average player/nation stats so when you eventually reach rank IV+ most of the time your team will lose unless you clutch up against 9+ enemies on their team.

Ah yes the new player experience when, barely any of the actual mechanics are even taught, there are so many people who spends hundreds of hours playing this game that don’t even know half of the realized mechanics it baffles me sometimes, the knowledge problem has always been massive and it becomes a compounding issue.

Please don’t go down the slippery slope and do the thing.

Whilst im not going to say that it isnt an issue. There is one factor you may not have considered.

What if the players just want to play those low BR vehicles?

I have the AESA Typhoon, the top tier aircraft in the British TT, But I quite often enjoy going back and playing the low BR Spitfires, Hurricanes, even the occasional match in the Gladiator (I know the context is ground, but much the same applies to air too) and not because I can “seal club” but because I genuinely like those aircraft, they are fun, different and have quite a historical interest.

Should I not be allowed to play said low BR aircraft just because I have more experience or have unlocked later aircraft?

Same applies to ground and naval.

(let alone the whole other can of worms of wanting to grind more than one TT. You HAVE to grind through those lower BR vehicles (if you want to do it free) and naturally, you’ll do well if you have more experience)

OoOoOoOo spooky scary SBMM

I am 69 y/o, and I have been playing steadily since I began in Feb. 2014
My eyesight is still pretty good(with my glasses ofc . . .lol) and I actually
have decent reflexes still, eye/hand coordination, so I can still play . . nothing special.

My biggest advantages here are time, I can play when I want, and whatever I want
mode, BR, etc. . . . this comes in handy for avoiding “burnout”, something many get.

We have the freedom as players, to use any vehicles we own. We get to choose the BR’s
we play(granted we’re able) modes and even select the server(s) we want to play on.
This a good thing, but also a double edged sword, as there will be players that will
take advantage of their experince and “seal club” newer players and/or abuse certain
vehicles. But it has always been this way, as far as I know.

WT is not particularly “new player or user friendly” in many regards. Tutorials are “light”,
advice on playing and especially account development are . … sparse.
Mainly on youtube or other 3rd party sites for learning, which is “catch as catch can”

Some are good and helpful, many are not so much for new players. Most things you
pick up in that manner you need to take with a grain of salt as it may or may not
apply to you and your play style directly. Something to consider . . . .

I will give you a small bit of “beginner’s advice”, not condescending in any way,
just some things that might ease the starting out part, even tho you’re lvl 11 and not
a complete “noob” I am sure.

Work on developing your account as much(or more) than progressing at the beginning.
Crew skills are important, often overlooked and not explained anywhere very well.
Building up your crew skills early on is easier than later. They make a slight difference
in the first 2 - 3 tiers, but playing with under developed skills later on will be . . . difficult.

I recommend playing AB(Arcade) starting out(I still mainly play AB because I find it more fun)
For the purpose of building crew skills(AB pays 3x more than RB or Sim) you get more
spawns guaranteed in ground and as many as you want basically in air AB. This will speed up
the whole process a great deal and you can always change modes at any time later.
In tanks in also gives you the chance to learn the maps better as well as where to shoot.
If you try naval, RB & AB are a lot more alike than in planes or tanks. Different aiming systems
and RB is a little slower, but other than that, very much alike. Oh and crew skills in naval
effect the performance of your vehicles a LOT more than in planes or tanks as well.

But you will run into seal clubbers the first few tiers(and higher) just because of skill gaps
and our freedoms to play what we want . . . just how it is.

Don’t let it get to you, we all have gone thru it starting out. It’s still a great game, no matter
how hard many try to ruin it for others. Kinda how the world works anyway.

p.s. I know a guy that just plays a Su-6 and I-153 in AB. . almost exclusively, and as far as
I can tell, he just learned to play those, likes them and that is basically all he does or plays.
Another, BT-5, same thing . . . about all that he ever plays. Each have 1000’s of games
with their chosen vehicles. Why? . … I have no idea, but who are we to tell them how to play
the game as long as they are not breaking any rules?
We do not have any “skill based” matchmaking, and frankly I do not believe they could
make it work anyway.

I hope you get past all this and find some part of the game to play and enjoy.

Nothing wrong with seal clubbing.

Sadly we won’t have SBMM that would solve most of the game problems.

Well, I wouldn’t say most, but I would say a lot on the MM side of things.

You know a system like this caters to the whales right?
