One - if not the - key aspect of Ground RB is having to recognize the enemies yourself through information the game gives you like the map, sound or the kill feed, having to watch out and especially thinking logically. That’s a huge part of what makes the difference between good and bad players in this gamemode.
I have a problem with the scouting feature as it is in the game right now because it takes away this key aspect of Ground RB nearly entirely.
This leads to meta like advantages, not having to follow these essential rules of Ground RB by being able to bypass them with the marker you can just set that will hover above the enemy tank for 30 seconds following him around.
Ingame this means when you fight a light tank you can be sure all his teammates in the area will be alerted by your presence which is a massiv handicap.
I want to address one argument I often hear about this topic: light tanks need this feature to make up for their reduced combat power compared to other types of tanks. This point itself I get, but not all light vehicles have this disadvantage to other tank classes. Especially when you think of the light tanks from ~4.0 - ~10.0 (for example: Centauro, M1128, Rooikat, ikv91) most light tanks are no different to medium tanks when it comes to overall performance.
So in conclusion I would like to see 2 or 3 changes made regarding the scouting feature:
Nerfing scouting itself by:
1.1 reducing scouting time, 30 sec is just too much.
1.2 removing the marker hovering above the enemy, it is just way too “arcade -ish”, at least let the players
have to look at the map
1.3 don’t let the marker update itself even when the enemy is completely in cover and out of sight for the scouting vehicle, not only is this unrealistic but it also removes the ability for the player to get away from the enemy’s attention
Give it to the right vehicles. (already described in this post)
(highly optional) Let the player know that he got spottend through a warning so at least he knows the whole enemy team will be able to track exactly where he is going and has a eye on him.
sounds like the game you are looking for is simulator battles.
It doesn’t hover over them too accurately if they are moving to the point of being nearly worthless
WoT 6th sense lmao
That the entire purpose of a light tank and the whole reason why British light tanks and armoured cars of the last 50 years were called CVRT/W Combat Vehicle RECONNAISSANCE Tracked/Wheeled
Have you actually played War Thunder? Most players just ignore scouted vehicles, from my experience. I play a lot of light tanks and scout to assist my team. I can’t tell the amount of times I’ve scouted and enemy and had my team either on the ground or in the air just ignore it, even if it’s the only one on the map.
I’ve watched enemy that are near our spawn who I’ve scouted, and our team just rolls right past them or flies over them on their way to bomb the enemy spawn.
Lastly, I’ve found that way scouting generally functions, is that as soon as the marker expires, that’s when the enemy is destroyed. It’s like some weird dynamic in the Snail world.
It’s not worthless just because they aren’t 100% exact. It will still be enough for you to know where that enemy is and where he goes.
That’s why I marked this propose as highly optional. It is not as bad though when you think of how the scouting itself is implemented in a very unrealistic way, too and probably copied from WoT, too.
I’m not talking about reallife, I’m talking about gameplay. When I explain why I think a mechanic is broken gameplay wise responding with reallife facts does not counter that a bit.
These 3 are armored cars. But in terms of armor->Tank destroyers. A modern designation based on proper old designations. Would be Self Propelled, Tank Destroyer, Armored Car.
Exactly, it will track the player down and tell everybody where he is. I know it isn’t great beyond that. Why would that matter in this discussion? I never claimed that whatsoever
If the enemy only moves like 2 meters, yeah. But if he actually moves enough for it to be worth knowing of, the marker can provide you with that information pretty well.
Above, you say you play “REALISTIC” Battle… Then below you say you want to be told when you’ve been spotted which is even more UN-realistic…
Why would you want to be told??? In real life, if an enemy scout has seen you, you wouldn’t have a clue anybody had seen you… …unless you saw him too, or he shoots a round at you. That suggestion is just plain wrong for RB (not accounting for missile painting, of course).
Ofc that would be unrealistic. But that’s why it is highly optional and as I said the scouting system as it is in the game is unrealistic, too. Fun fact: You cannot actually spawn scout drones irl from your tank, too. But you know what, this feature is in the game and -even crazier- in REALISTIC battles, too. Almost like this is a video game and not reallife, right?
But I myself am not even super pro that point, so if this is your only complaint about my propose that’s good.
I think the only change that should be made for Scout, is to remove the Timer itself (30 secs)
And change it to be based on Distance.
If the target stays X range where it was scouted first, it will be kept scouted until it leaves the area or is killed.
This small change would make camping something for people to think twice about, promote moving and so on.
I understand players that can’t see the target from their position, I’m talking about the ones that blatantly ignore it, such as the CAS player who is out enact revenge against the player that killed them; instead of preventing an enemy capping a point, or that someone who is camping a spawn point.
What do you have against the nerf or even removal of scouting when it doesn’t change anything for you anyways? If your mates never care about the markers anyways where is the difference in removing it? Nothing would change for you
