With the upcoming scouting change, drones can now scout ground targets, but they aren’t unlocked until Rank VI (except the M551, I guess). With this, I also have a proposal to add scout planes to lower tiers. They would basically act like scout drones (with an orbit mode, scouting ability, and target marking) but would be much easier to counter by ground fire or CAP, which would incentivize more teamplay. Some were also equipped with mg and smoke rocket/bomb.
There are 3 way that Gaijin could implement to spawn in a scout plane:
All light tank would have access and spawn one like scout drone but with a small SP cost.
They would be spawned from the menu and would cost a fixed amount of SL or SP, just like high-rank strike drones.
They could be added to the tech tree, and players would then be able to research and put them in their lineup.
Most low-tier scout planes are already in the game: OS2Us, Ar 196, F1M2, Po-2,… Now, obviously most of these are naval planes, but they could be used as placeholders as more scout planes are added.
I think the scout plane has been nothing but a negative addition. I’d rather it gets removed altogether rather than discussing about expanding it to lower BRs.
imo the drone itself is bad, way too small and maneuverable to be targeted by any less of top tier AA or autocannon with VT round so what i proposal is to add something that have more high risk to reward than just some stupid drone that buzz around all day with immunity.
Plus it gave gaijin incentive to give us more scout aircraft
Yes, you’re absolutely right. We need a lot more features in the game that never existed in reality. Gaijin always has an open ear for this, but it’s also a long-standing tradition at Gaijin to simply ignore real-life features.
For example, ground vehicles in rank 1 have no reconnaissance function, even if they are used as reconnaissance vehicles or were even designed specifically for this purpose.
Basically, however, any vehicle with a radio can perform reconnaissance, but never mind that.
But now to the reconnaissance aircraft, which could not and should not communicate reconnaissance results by radio, i.e. deliver immediate results in the sense of the game. They had a large number of cameras on board whose footage was only evaluated after landing, which is still the case today, for example with the Tornado Recce with Imagery Intelligence – IMINT.
But why not more Star Wars Thunder? Gaijin did a great job when reconnaissance drones were added to all kinds of light tanks, armoured personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles. Does anyone know of anything like this in real life?
But it gets even better: most of these vehicles with drones date back to a time when the word ‘drone’ was only used for worker bees and the first thoughts in the arms industry of some countries were just beginning to consider whether radio-controlled model aircraft could be equipped with cameras…
When i said scout plane im talking more about stuff like the Grass Hopper or the Storch, both are spotter plane for artillery and ground forces but in general most will have 2 way radio.
