Scout drones are really dumb

I’ve been playing a lot of light tanks recently, and getting used to using these more and the amount of information you get from actively using these is just absurd.

Anytime you are wondering whats going on around you just hop into the drone and you have perfect view of everything, can mark exact locations of targets, know what they are, what they are doing, and to top it all off you can scout them now. If you want to know if its safe to push? hop in drone. Hear someone but don’t know exactly where or what they are? Hop in drone. In smoke and getting pushed? Hop in drone mark and shoot them through smoke. And then you have real toxic stuff like scouting people as these leave spawn, just the scouting in general.

At this point I just feel blind playing MBTs, I get into all these situations and I just have to wing it, guess, take huge gambles… in light vic if my drone is up all that is eliminated.

These should not be free to use, or only given to vehicles that REALLY need them, I think its so strong at this point you could add dedicated support vehicles and these would mostly carry their usefulness. Are people just not using these I don’t get how these aren’t complained about more, and they really aren’t that hard to use, its 2 keybinds, and if it doesn’t get shot down which they are notoriously hard to it such a huge advantage you would be an idiot not to. It doesn’t take that much brainpower to park behind cover hit a bind look around scout and go back to what you were doing, now armed with all the info you could ever want.

Even if scouting wasn’t in the game these would be stupid.

Some Examples

No one can push me here without me knowing well in advance, everyone in their spawn was scouted all game, anyone that left died because they can’t move without my entire team knowing where they are going, I shot a guy through bushes when neither of us could see each other with a drone mark, playing here in anything without a drone you have no idea how many are camping near spawn, you don’t know your getting pushed till they are more than half way there. Only time I was any kind of danger was peaking to take shots. And there was 2 SPAA sitting in spawn that tried for a while to shoot it down and just gave up after a while. Usually if you park it behind spawn like this they don’t even notice.

Again next match

I’m sitting here fighting guys on other ridge. I want to know whats going on on A, whats there, how many, is there anyone pushing across the river, is there anyone on that far ridge not scouted that can shoot me if i peak to take a shot on the abrams, theres a guy behind the rock on the other side of the river about to be an easy kill that I wouldn’t be able to react to in time without knowing hes coming. All this just by popping drone. Took me less than 10 seconds, cost nothing.

Last example

I really want to go camp at the spot pathed out in green on the minimap in the first image. Its the start of the match, no one SHOULD know where anyone is, how many people are going where, but all I did was hit cruise control go into drone fly up for 3 seconds looked down and theres only 1 poor bastard pushing alone so immediately I know its safe to be aggressive, he gets scouted, and I keep tabs on him the entire time (I jobbed hard here and died but you get the point its way too much info for hardly any effort or cost).

they defiantly need to be easier to shoot down, not only is their hit box almost non-existent, they don’t seem to trigger proxy fuses, have zero IR signature and have a bizarre flight model that lets them wobble all over the place when manually controlled.
That and the fact that they clutter up you SPAA radar with contacts making it harder to pick out actual targets.
That’s my main gripe with them, just make them killable.
But they could also limit their battery life, let them operate for 1 or 2 mins then they return and go on cooldown while they recharge for a bit.

I think that one of the bad points of reconnaissance drones is that even if a drone is successfully shot down, there is little benefit to the shooter. If the drone is destroyed, the score or SP obtained by destroying the drone will be very small.
I think it would be more balanced if there were more risks, or if there were conditions such as a cool time.

Yup, scout drones were easily the worst edition to the game, because if you don’t have one, you have no competition, and if you do, it’s wall hacks. I think the drone age update in general was bad, but there’s been worse prob.

This is my main gripe with drones, they have unlimited battery, a non existent and inconsistent damage model coupled with a FM that makes it impossible to hit with machine guns and auto cannons. Seriously the worst and most broken thing in this game is the scout drone damage model, seeing it trigger proxy fuzes and take no damage at all is infuriating.

Scout drones have to be nerfed severely for the health of the game, being able to scout through them is game breaking. Scouting as a mechanic needs to change.

Spoiler

Start of the match here this town is usually a nightmare, but drone lets me know theres 1 guy on the pennisula, I scout him he gets pummeled for 2 minutes anytime he tries to do anything arty dropped on him etc. The second guy is the only one is town, hes waiting for us to push, no one on my team knows here there the leo 2 practically drives by him but I scout him and he gets cucked for no fault of his own other than some loser with a drone spotted him and he dies horribly.

Now we are spawn camping them, I know where everyone there is, im scouting them, they can’t leave. They have no shot at trying to kill anyone of us without everyone knowing exactly where they are peaking, Its just really lame. I know because I have it happen to me too.
