With what? SPAA cannot lock onto it, and HE-VT has a larger trigger radius than explosive radius so it cannot damage it.
I believe the OP means that marking it on the map should be removed - so the “pilot” can see the area, and if they spot an enemy would communicate to the team some other way. But I could be wrong.
Personally I think scout drones should not have been introduced at all, and should be removed entirely - they offer no risk to the pilot. The fog of war is in the game for a reason.
My SPAA has been locking scout drones for the passed month at least.
Most of my frags in my Chinese 9.0 SPAA is scout drones.
Funny that… some random AHEAD round deals with drones.
2S38 with its tiny warhead has also fragged drones.
Built different I guess.
I agree on that point.
Small hitboxes but they are still easy to be damage by fuze shells even small explosion nearby the drone is enough to bring it down.
Many players don’t have those vehicles, and requiring ONE SPECIFIC (rare) ammo type is a balance problem. Have shot at drones with Veak 40 and Falcon and mediums with 50 cal and just wasted a bunch of ammo.
And others above have said their HE-VT shells explode too far away.
The scout drone has to be one the most bugged vehicles in game, and I’m surprised it’s so overlooked by the community. The main problem with drones it’s their awful hitbox, microscopic modules that actually shield it from HE splash and server desync. I’m surprised the drone hasn’t been overhauled by simplifying its modules and making the hitbox way larger.
Extremely difficult to do sometimes even with dedicated spaa; either way you are just downplaying how extreme the benefit is to have wallhacks on an entire enemy team effectively with little skill or effort.
This isn’t counterplay. You’ve just removed the possibility to do anything other than have everyone be known to everyone else. RB turned into Arcade with this regarding spotting at the modern BRs.
I’d say it very much is, though if the drones were actually easy to shoot down like they should be, it would more counterable.
The ability for the drone to mark a single spot as “enemy spotted” like before was fine. It limited you to basically only marking 1 tank at a time. The active scout system not only lets you spot multiple enemies but also lets you spot them in real time with active up dates instead of relying on the UAV drone operator to manually keep moving the marker for a single tank.
And instead of fixing them, they just gave them even more power to scout before ensuring there was a decent counter for them, which should have been there who knows how many years ago, and they reduced the respawn timer because why not, hand them out like candy even if you SOMEHOW manage to destroy one… it will be back up within a minute.
But it’s all as expected, I wouldn’t expect them to make changes that make the game better, that’d be unusual.
The topic was about the scouting mechanic, not the IRST tracking that only helps on like two vehicles.
What I was talking about is the scouting mechanic that was added to them like two updates ago, the one light tanks have. The regular drone ping is fine because the player has to focus on that one vehicle to update where it is, versus scouting it and moving on to do the same to the next target.
