SAAF JAS-39C Technical Data and Discussion

Its been dead since before the gripen was added. Hate to say it but the gripen on sweden isnt really worth a players time to get when you have two other nations with a larger selection of vehicles to choose from. Besides with how difficult rank 6 is on sweden most people buy the XS and given its recent position im not suprised gaijin is trying to sell another premium since they effectively killed off most players who enjoyed the XS.

Not entirely Italy has quite the selection of vehicles, im waiting on the F16 to gets its ARH but its honestly not too bad as an in between but if it gets ARH ill have the mig 29 to use.

(Pls gaijin give ARH on f16)

Gripen pretty much revived the Swedish Top tier and considering Gripen C offers good CAS abilities it pairs with Swedish Top tier Ground vehicles quite well, i’d say its very worth it.

@Smin1080p_WT is this enough for bug reporting?

Thats kinda sad isnt it? The only point to go after the gripen on sweden is CAS? Again most players want diversity so they can have alternatives. Again its why the Gripen A imo is kinda pointless since its basically always fighting ARH and while its got a good close up potential it has to close the gap first. So realistically you go from a viggen to a meh gripen then to a decent top tier ARH slinger. If there was more vehicles it might be attractive as a air nation. Its why im happy both the swedish and SAAF grip got AGM 65G so that they were more useful in ground. Also because i the Grip on britain is nice so i have another playstyle aside from flying a bus that is the Tornado.

Not really, i enjoy my little Delta Canard with tons of countermeasures and Aim-120’s, it plays quite well in air rb.

Disagree im constantly using my JAS39A and i usually get into 12.0-13.0 mm where i can bully the entire lobby, as for Fakour/AIM-54 and Harrier spam you can easily deal with FOX-3 missiles thanks to tons of countermeasures again, taking 2 skyflash+4 Aim-9M is surprisingly good considering your enemies doesnt expect you to fire SARH missiles in close range and die to it.

Its actually really good.

Well personally i dont like Derby’s too much aside on my F-16C Barak-II (cause i can use them for close range while i can use Aim-120’s for long range), on the other hand i like my Tornado F3 especially every since the flight model buff, im looking forward to play with F3 Late as well.

AoA is different than the actual flight angle though, no? Gripen is much more capable than 24-26 as someone else mentioned.

I just found this:

So gripen switched from the AR830 RWR to the BOW-21 RWR at some point. not sure when yet.

Also additionally found this:

Following deliveries were of Batch 3 JAS 39C/D machines, which featured:

  • An inflight refueling probe that retracted over the right engine intake.

  • An improved “RM12UP” engine, with a full authority digital engine control (FADEC) and other improvements.

  • A cockpit with new color MFDs and compatible with night vision goggles.

  • A new inertial navigation system with GPS, and an improved “Communication & Data Link 39 (CDL 39)” system. Sweden is not a member of NATO but is a member of the European Union, and since the end of the Cold War the Swedes have been cooperating more closely with NATO – meaning the Gripen needed a NATO-compatible datalink, with a “Link-16” system being eventually integrated to fill the need. Incidentally, it also seems cockpit labeling went from Swedish to English to better support international operations.

  • An “on board oxygen generating system (OBOGS)”.

  • More computing power and five MILSTD 1553B data buses, instead of three. New radar modes have been added over time as well.

  • The improved “EWS-30” EW system, built around the new Saab Avionics “BOW-21” RWR, capable of recognizing a wider range of threats and targeting them more accurately. The EWS-30 included an onboard, automatic active jammer, and could support improved towed decoys.

The last 20 Batch 2 aircraft included some Batch 3 features, such as the color MFDs, CDL 39, and the five data buses. The changes in Batch 3 provided a substantial increase in capability, and the Batch 3 JAS 39C/D machines were sometimes referred to as “Super Gripens”.

Think this says something about it:

Sooo, link all the sources and see what sticks???

That’s specific snip? No, doesn’t mention threat ID at all. Plus remember with any secondary sources we need atleast two and ideally as many as possible.

Third party website, no use I’m afraid.

So you’re saying those websites and documents are basically useless?

No, just the one I sent

It’s the same RWR on the Tornado, you guys already have plenty of data for it.

@Panther2995 Tag me for Gripen related stuff, even if you don’t agree with me at times I do have a long list of sources.

I don’t have the dev server downloaded. What exactly is being bug reported? Threat identification issues?
