SAAB JAS 39E/F Gripen - General discussion

That or personally I’d rather it be foldered with the E. Same with any other two-seat versions so long as their single-seat counterparts are in the TT. (Cough cough Gripen D, F-110F, F/A-18D/F etc)

Does it have a gun now unlike the earlier D?

By the looks of it no it doesn’t have a gun. Atleast from looking at the Gripen F brochure.

I haven’t seen an angle of the Gripen F that flew to be able to tell if it has a gun or not.

Probably leaning towards the 105 line TBH, while they might add a “late” Gripen E, but that is if they want to add it, knowing how gaijin is.

Twin seater is meant for training primarily IIRC, but can be used for support considering it can carry same weaponry, albeit without the gun.

Still find it silly they made the JAS-39D a squad vehicle.

it doesn’t have a gun, just like the other 2 seat Gripen versions. you can see the lack of a bulge on the belly that houses the revolver drum and other mechanisms for the cannon.

I sincerely hope there won’t be a “late” 39E, there might be a production version concidering the one we have now by all means seem to be the pre production prototypes (still with quite a few issues in it’s model and implementation)

You know how gaijin is when it comes to “early” and “late” models instead of implementing their proper designation lol.

For cool factor,
Missiles in a line = :(
Missiles in an arrow = :)

I mean tbf it’s not the first time we’ve seen a Gripen with ASRAAM

More likely imo is that the 105 line ends with the XT or SK60F or perhaps Hawk Mk.51A with 9M and R60

Actually do you know why the Gripen D in game has a bulge where the gun would be? It’s not featured on the base Gripens with the single seat. It looks like an intake but I have no idea what it could be used for since the single seat models don’t have it. Only thing I can think of is the two seater models somehow make the standard intakes smaller and it needs the extra intake but not entirely sure.

Assuming it’s an intake for ram air, probably using it to cool down the additional set of avionics.

Gripen F doesn’t have it probably since the ram air intake is already at the base of the tail.

Yeah, I had asked on the discord but most peeps there are tanks fans, which I mean is nice for the very niche knowledge but air is lacking. The intake ruins the Gripen D look imo, almost peak slender design and then it just has a dongle out.

Gripen F looks really clean though

tanks fans

wait really?

I mean, tbf when we discussed the Gripen and it’s problems I’m unfortunately the most knowledgeable on the Gripper despite not liking the vehicle.

The discord is nice but we have far more ground fans than air, and those that do like air prefer the 1920-1970s

Yeah. The 39B/D’s belly intake is a little silly but no other place for the ram air intake during the time without doing major modifications.

Like how the 39F has matured compared to its previous iterations. No gun will still hurt though if it ever comes…

I would imagine I’m not very helpful on the discord. Noob + not very knowledgeable isn’t a great recipe for…anything

Should just do the tried and true patent of taking old scrap 30mm guns putting them in gunpods and mounting them on the most inconvenient pylons

Nah, everyones got their own thing, don’t gotta be knowledgeable to contribute on a fan discord like that. I mean hell I originally only joined to spread the word of our heavenly F-35 Draken but I branched out to do Finnish and Norwegian stuff with a lot of CV90 stuff on the side.
