SAAB JAS 39E/F Gripen - General discussion

Speaking of RWR, is there any news on RWR coverage for Gripen Family?

C/E models should have K band coverage and I believe it was already reported but haven’t seen any changes on dev server.

Perhaps you could talk with someone to clarify this situation?

I think the JAS39E MAW and Spherical RWR reports were bumped not to long ago, i think i saw Smin answer about it a while back but i can’t remember precisely, I’ll see if i can find it again.

I don’t know about the K-band one though, bett to ask those questions to the Technical Moderators tbh :)

Technical moderators that ignore Gripen queries as though commenting on it would stricken them with disease.

Then I shall summon holy @Gunjob

Please enlighten us with your ancient wisdom about K-Band coverage on Gripen’s mighty Gunjob.

When you poke Tech Mods like that it’s best to also link to the report you’re asking about in the same post that you’re tagging them in. Makes things 100 times easier for them and increases your chances of a reply :)

Noted :)

“Late” for a plane not yet having reached FOC is insane. Maybe rename the current one to “Pre series” and the new one then to just be 39E…

The one we have ingame i guess is a preproduction NG variant, not the production variant gripen E, also any news on spherical rwr?

The one we have in game is a production E variant, but as i understand it the 6002 is not in use with the military but rather is kept at the defence material supplier and is used to test new things before they are deployed to the in-service fleet. It is however ment to be built the exact same as the in-service fleet to ensure compatibility for the things they test on it. (hence why it’s used to test AI and self flying things at the moment for example)

The issue (as with all gripens basically) is that there is not really a “set” variant like most others do. JAS39 is instead a continuously evolving platform, the one we have in game has been seen in that configuration IRL. So it’s not really “wrong” per say, but just one of the earlier configurations.

I think even the Brazilian E version had the old wing design when they were first delivered but was retrofitted to the new wing design relatively quickly and all new deliveries have the new wing.

So gaijin can separate them into either early and late, or year-marked versions, with each being significant improvements, right? That is what they did for the T-34s (or at least smth similar)

Since aircraft like the MiG-29, Su-27, and T-72 exist, classified by era and modification, I don’t think it’s impossible. I can only hope that they will announce whether they are moving forward with implementation, just like with Finland’s F-18MLU.

They probably could, but at the moment they are choosing not to do that.

JAS39 Gripen: The Ultimate Nordic Warbird - #22 (Older post but i haven’t heard anything different, a bit newer answer here: JAS39C Swedish model Technical Overview - #146 )

Would probably fit nicely to have this current E as a “production prototype” then a slightly worse NG/pre-production prototype as a premium/squadron vehicle and an in-service E version at top tier when IRIS-T and METEOR missiles get added.
