SAAB JAS 39E/F Gripen - General discussion

Wasn’t NG just an umbrella term for the overall project? The first prototype was even based on a D version and not a C version.

Edit:
but the wingspan would in that case be the same as C yes.

Not just wingspan but also overall length.

In game JAS39E is based on early model which has the same length and wingspan that both C/NG has Necro.

Serial Production JAS39E’s has bigger wing span and taller length.

I don’t know where you got this information but this is incorrect. The wingspan and length of the E has always been bigger than the C. There has been no changes to the E’s size since the first version was revealed.

The in-game E is also longer and wider than the C.

Edit:
Here is a visual representation of the size difference between C and E, it’s not something you’re going to easily spot with the naked eye unless you superimpose the models on top of eachother.

Yeah thats the thing, in real life E is marginally bigger than C model (without new flaps iirc)while in game both uses same diameters according to information on warthunders wiki.

Did you also measure the ingame Gripens or just entered those numbers to that site ?

Mıght be unreliable sources, cause iirc some NG models which was based on C was also referred as early E models.

I’ll take a look at this because it shouldn’t be, not from what i’ve seen others say at least.

Are you perhaps referring to the general prototype planes that are used to test things in general?
To my knowledge there aren’t really any “NG models” as the NG is just an umbrella term for the project of designing a “Next Generation” JAS39.

The JAS-39 NG demonstrator was based on the 39D platform but with the new engine, landing gear (nose wasn’t changed it looks like) and some other small changes.

Some more images of the 39NG demonstrator itself: Aviation Photo Search | Airliners.net

Maybe, certain time has passed since I learned those informations (which seems not reliable and completely false).

Either Gaijin just copy pasted C model and renamed it as E or wiki thunder has wrong measures.

They likely didn’t, to many other things are very different from the C for a Copy paste to be viable. If the size is wrong then they likely just got the size wrong in general while making the model. As far as i know the Wiki numbers are pulled straight from the game.

In this case they got the wrong measure numbers.

Hell its even more wrong because current length is based on without pivot tube on the nose which makes it even more funnier.

I’m checking thing on this, trying to find if there is a good way to measure vehicles in the game and i’ll probalby make a report if needed.

This sort of makes sense though, the nose “lance” wont make any meaningful aerodynamic difference :P

Still its wrong.

According to SAAB official website JAS39C’s length should be 14.9m’s while in game its 14.1, it makes it even worse because in game JAS39E also uses same measures which makes it even more smaller than actual JAS39E.

I don’t know if any other vehicles in the game counts the length with things like pitot tubes or not, it might be game convention.

The 14.1m number comes directly from the Swedish defence forces website on the JAS39C:

They just exclude the small metal tube at the front.

Here, on this web sites it says 14.9m.

Yes, that’s including the metal tube at the front. :)

Exactly if Gaijin didnt include this to overall measure it means C models are also wrong :D

I’m not sure i understand what you mean.

My interpretation is that Gaijin measures the plane without the tube (14.1m) and then writes the length without the tube as well (14.1m).

Yeah i understand that part but it bothers me considering pitot tube is literally there.

I’m still confused.

Think of it like this:

When you measure your own height, do you do it from feet to head or do you stretch your arm up and measure from feet to hand?

How far above your head you can reach with your hand doesn’t change your actual height.

So Gaijin might exclude things that won’t effect flight performance when measuring planes.

Im not saying they are completely wrong, im just saying its wrong in my book and annoys me.
