Its worse than that. Its a madsive reduction to its size and then additional modules modelled arpund it that do janky spall stuff.
I mean playing japan in top tier you would be happy to have one, just one spaa available as good as pantsir. Hell, you would be happy to have an spaa as effective as the pantsir for only one of the three threats: Helis, Jets, and their launched ordinance. But what you get is a buggy af tan sam that cant lock helis close to the ground, cant lock long range jets, cant reliably target ordinance but is decent vs close range jets (if only the seeker window wouldnt completely bug out all the time while using the radar) or the Type 03 which is arguably even worse since it cant reliably shoot down anything moving fast closer than 6 km and multipathing hits are a diceroll. Its completely useless vs helis and struggles with intercepting multiple incoming agms and cant hit any ordinance launched at you at 6 km or closer. Thats 3 useless spaa that you can spawn twice if you really feel like feeding the enemy cas lots of spawnpoints.
Playing Russia with 10 crewslots you can (if you want to, most unlikely that you will need to) spawn in the new patch: 2 Tech tree Pantsir, 2 free vehicle pantsir, 2 Pantsir sm-sv, 2 BUK. Uh…yeah…each of these is easily way better than any of the measly buggy messes that you can spawn when playing japan but i guess its totally fine since 90% of the players playing top tier are queueing for russia so its obviously a higher priority that those dont get frustrated…

Damn. If thats true (and ill check when im back home) you can only spawn 6 russian spaa per match of which every single one is way better against any possible aerial (and ground) threat than any of the japanese ones.

Same goes on usa, example when I got adats on lineup I wont get free adats in there.
And on soviets, if you get free pantsir , and you got that in your lineup you wont get any free spaa in there, same goes on anothers nations

Don’t get me wrong i dislike playing the buk as much as everyone thats not a hardcore spaa fanatic and willing to invest days of training to make that thing work. Apparently theres workarounds for the radar vehicle being just horrible by strictly playing the launchers only, in the end i feel like its still way better than the absolutely useless type 03 which is just a gimmick with its slow af accelerating missiles lofting over mountain ranges. If only for being able to still use the launchers on the buk when you finally get redeemed from your distraction vehicle. Might be way more annoying on claustrophobic cramped ww2 style city maps but on open maps its just way better in time to target (and thus intercepting ordinance)
Also doesnt exactly help that on average you will have to intercept much quicker russian ordinance than a buk or pantsir which except vs the malay su30 has way more time to react to incoming stuff. (not the buks strong point, reaction time, but still)

CAS goes multipath then zuni or gun down low tier AA like NPC mobs

Most of these are very good or at least usable vs helis so yeah they can be very useful while possible still support through scouting. Playing japan what you get to deal with helis is…nothing. Cant pressure them, cant reliably intercept ordinance, just wait in spawn screen and pray that one of your allies from other nations isnt completely unaware.
I know that, but using launchers radar limits your visibility really hard against air threats, it is true that you get it on ARH’s own range lot better, since it doesnt have 4s scan time.
But claws or nasam either is a lot more reliable , and better compared to buk, and lot of people say claw is one of worst.
And that intercepting using launchers radar is quite amusing, when your screen is filled with green squares or what ever colour you have binded there. And when using on it, you only have that 6 missiles, since when you control launcher it wont shoot em from another launcher. So yeah pantsir works a lot better on it also.
Only scenario where BUK is better if enemy cas sticks over 15km away from battlefield, and wont use ground as cover. Those times are not so often ( Like nearly never)

yeah…let me sit around and stare at him waiting for him to climb into orbit. Its your only chance youre right, but if hes not climbing theres literally nothing you can do. and even if he is climbing as long as hes not too close hes still got loads of time to drive the missile into the ground. all while youre most likely already targeted by a jet from long range.
if hes just sitting somewhat low all you can do is switch to radar missiles (which takes forever) try to get some of his ordinance or just watch him murder your whole team while youre in spaa and cant do anything about it.
