Now tell me how to protect the tank and the concentration of troops near it? Oh, you don’t know? What part of “war has changed” didn’t you understand? NO ONE knows how to effectively protect tanks against drones that can destroy their tracks with a small RPG charge, immobilize you, and then other drones come to finish the job, and you still want to put soldiers near the tank.
The era is designed to protect the vehicle sure, but it’s lethal to infantry who are accomponing it if they’re too close.
It also complicates moving the tanks. Having to remove the era before transport and re-attach it.
It’s just not worth it when modern NERA is pretty dammed good.
Erm…no. NERA is provided in the form of modules - pretty much like ERA blocks. Replacing them is no more difficult - if anything it’s easier.
True, not every ERA is as destructive. But anything like K5 and above very much is - simply due to the need to fire material out/down/up to disrupt an incoming dart.

They must think we’re in the 1940s, where soldiers were transported on top of tanks when there were no other vehicles.
I would say an APS is by far the worst for troops.
And who employs APSs?
USA, Germany, Italy, Israel, and Russia.
I’m not talking about external NERA.
I mean to be fair, thats still happening a lot.

Often, when we’re talking about IFVs, we’re discussing other things and not MBTs.
Even then. The infantry is taught, at least in the US, to get far as F**k away from the vehicles, because they do their job and got you to where you need to go, and they haven’t stopped being a target since they drove you in.

To be honest, in combat situations I’ve only seen it on IFVs like BMPs, BTRs, etc., but I haven’t seen it on top of tanks.

I definitely think the spaa are the worst offenders around there. Bmd-4s aren’t all that annoying imo. But a good BMP-3 player in a hull down position can be.
I remember a time when the Is-2 could be .50 cal’d in the front due to a bug. Took them 3 weeks to fix it.
I think I saw it occur on some Challies and abrams mostly.
I always blame Gaijin for those bugs,however at the same time i do understand that its hard to improve stuff on a 13 year old engine with over 300 vehicles to take into consideration

I’ve seen footage of it, but it’s certainly wasn’t common even before the proliferation of drones. Riding on bmps however seemed to be the norm.
Riding on btrs is a norm, merely due to where the side doors are, and low armor. Might as well be able to jump off quick.
I think they fixed those issues with the new btr tho
