I genuinely don’t think Gaijin knows how shells or Armor actually work… Look at things like the 2S38 being able to pen MBTs that are even BARELY showing their side, through their tracks, road wheels and all. All of which would totally sap ANY Energy a round that tiny would have, along with deforming it to a point where it would lose all armor penetrating capabilities.
Same issue is happening to 20mm APDS/HVAP.
Rounds THAT tiny are going to very easy to stop, or shatter. Yes they have high THEORETICAL penetration, but their extremely light weight would make them very easy to throw off kilter and stop, That is why so many modern Light tanks and IFVs get away with just a Thin layer of sheet steel spaced away from their Normal armor. It throws those tiny light weight rounds off kilter and nullifies them.
Id also like to point out with this 279… i died to him Twice in my Olifant Mk2, that was the second time… the FIRST time, he sniped the 30mm plate under the gunmantlet, at nearly a km away. So i think something screwy was going on with him in general. Also, Nice Volumetric there gaijin, its not like that round would have had to hit 2 different 152mm plates BEFORE it hit that 30mm plate…
This is a calculation issue likely caused by client and server connection malfunction. There are (uncommon) instances where you can damage and detonate ammunition chargers and projectiles by a non-penetration. You also can have instances of penetrations that should’ve not happened (as the game portrait).
There you have it.
It’s a barely penetrating shot, so the game had it… barely penetrate.

To be fair there was still a possibility of penetration
