Right now the players who do not use the weapon selection system have access to a mode to release (shotgun) all equipped bombs at the same time, while those who use weapon selection are locked into specific numbers of drops, those being 2, 4, 8, and 16, with another mode that drops everything continuously as long as you hold the trigger.
There should be another ripple quanitity that allows to drop everything all at once, without using series mode. Series mode drops the ordnance in a line, while dropping everything at once allows for focused damage on something like a runway or a specific airfield module if you play air simualtor mode, or even a base. One advantage of using weapon selection mode is that it allows variable bomb series mode “inside an ongoing the battle” without being locked to the one that you chose before the spawning in.
We need more than just the age old quantity presets that we have in the game and more importantly we need a “release all” quantity mode.
I already in the old forum debated this at length, don’t even remember if the suggestion ever got through.
We definitely need better ripple quantity and ripple interval control, the current system is to restrictive and absolutely unrealistic.
The example I always brought is the Tornado, which can carry 12x 1000-pouners, andso has the firepower to kill 2 bases in one sortie. Due to the current restrictions however, it can only drop 8 bombs in one attack, overkilling the target, and have not enough power with its 4 remaining bombs for the second one:
Another big issue that must be addressed is the delay bewteen bombs of the same class, but different “packages”: Many aircraf have the bombs "packed " in different groups, e.g. the Harriers which carry their 1000-pounders on tandem racks under the wings, and a single one under the fuselage. Now when dropping the whole load, the tanfem racks will dro, then there will be a delay, then the single one drops, having the tendency to fall behind the target, or - annoying in somet ypes like AMX - to not be dropped at all because the delay results the remaining bombs would be dropped after the aircraft has left the CCRP “window”…
Speaking of the Ripple fire mode, I haven’t really seen if anyone else talking about the problem that the “Fire secondary weapon” button only fires/drops a single bomb or rockets even if you have selected for it to fire/drop something like [2], [4] or [S] bombs/rockets. In the clips i am only using the “Fire secondary weapon” button, not the button for “Fire Rocket” or “Drop Bomb”.
For me it works perfectly fine on the live server. It have only been on the dev server that it has only dropped a single bomb at the time, where on the live server it drops the [4] that i have set it to.
But one thing that will be nice with the way the new bomb release works, is that it is not camera tracking already dropped bombs, when you try to drop more bombs using CCRP.
Just tested. Only had it when I had the [hold pickle] configured for “toggle autorelease CCRP” with [pickle] for “fire secondary weapon”. When I had that “toggle autorelease CCRP” function not on the pickle, it drops them as intended in the selected quantity, both rockets and bombs (tested with Buccaneer S.2B).
Turns out i had the Drop Bomb Series on the same key as the Fire secondary weapons, which were the one causing the issue. After i removed it, I could drop the selected series of bombs i wanted with the Fire secondary weapons button.
While not exactly what is most optimal, it turns out you are able to drop 6 bombs per drop, if you have selected the bomb series as 6. You are able to do it by dropping it with the button for Drop Bomb Series button or if you have not selected your secondary weapon, when it passes over the drop point for CCRP it drops the amount you had specified before battle.
However this is locked into specific amounts like Secondary weapon ripple quantity, just some other amounts instead which you have to select before spawning. So it is only a way to get around it, if you need to drop 6 bombs, but if you need to drop 5, you are still out of luck.
The bomb series have access to [4], [6], [12], [24], [48] & [ALL]
While Secondary ripple quantity have access to [2], [4], [8], [16] & [S]
