For sure, it isn’t as big a drain as some might think. As a matter of fact, a lot of ship models are widely shared between War Thunder and War Thunder Mobile. I’m surprised no one has brought this up yet, but the last time I checked, naval was pretty popular in War Thunder Mobile, being one of the original game modes. As someone who was previously involved with game development, it is very common to see model reuse between games on different platforms with varying LODs. War Thunder Mobile is no exception.
As much as some people would like to imagine that air and ground will suddenly have an influx of content with the removal of naval, Gaijin will continue to pay for outsourced naval models to add to their mobile game, while it continues to be profitable. Any expectation that other game modes will greatly benefit from the removal of naval is, quite frankly, unrealistic.
Also the big appeal of War Thunder is all 3 in 1.
Not an entirely seperate game for each (which is why aces of thunder is such a shame imo)
Further to what you mentioned about the ship assets. There is no reason why maps cant be shared between air and naval too. Maybe even ground with the right map pick. Just each gamemode uses a different part of it (like for example Denmark is both a Naval EC Map and an Air Sim map)
The upcoming Falklands map could easily be used for every single gamemode if modeled right
Hopefully with the new detonation effects they also fix the issue where the officers Ammo Detonation voice lines only play in test sail and not in actual matches. It’s a minor issue but it bugs me a lot.

I never claimed it would automatically solve every issue in the game, but it’s pretty easy to see that switching resources around will be beneficial.
Ground and air vehicles often share many things but they still get out in a butchered state.
Outsourcing help with ground/air instead of naval would definitely make them drop much more quality updates, and possibly with more vehicles.
At one point all those players grinding and playing the same gamemodes over and over again on the same maps to finish one tech tree or get to top tier will get kinda bored of it and will realize this game holds more than rushing the same cap on the same maps or play 3 cap normandy for the 2000th time.
The mechanics and ways how naval works are actually pretty good and as soon as the snail realizes they need to improve the maps for naval rb and not just make every map an open 10 km slugfest where your facing ships you cant hurt just to get to toptier where you can’t be uptiered anymore i think a lot of people would actually really like naval. Rework of aa to make planes viable but not autodeath to any ship they decide to kamikaze into, improve maps and distances of spawns (at least for top tier) and make naval realistic ec (one of the most fun gamemodes as long as you have some decent teammates, have top tier bbs in your lineup and dont face a 5 man premade inavy squad hellbent of lasering every dude that just bought a moffett and decided to try some ec) a permanent mode and i think quite some people would play it.
Considering they are adding tons of ground vehicles also, do you really think it would make ground rb a better gamemode if they don’t add ships to the game? Or add twice the amount of ground vehicles? They obviously got the manpower and see it as the main thing to get the game moving forward to add like 30 new vehicles each patch. does it matter if 10 of those are ships for one patch? Ground rb in top tier on 2km² maps is a mess not because of ships in another gamemode
Yeah and that was fine somehow, but now when introducing these end of the line ww2 battleships, how should they get around doing that? just adding yamato and then nothing for a year? or iowa? They obviously decided now is the time to do that step so adding them all at once, the top notch stuff together with sips that can hold their own against them is the only way. otherwise it will just be the pantsir or more accurately the scharnhorst situation all over again for a year or two until mechanics or possible counters catch up.
Also Im quite sure the ground players (also me) and plen enjoyers (also me) will (as usual) also get their piece of the cake and still get awesome and op vehicles so what’s the point…let people that like ships have their fun, people are welcome to join in anytime. With some decompression and (rather simple) spawn situation and map improvements many more people could and would enjoy naval. I don’t think this whole game is based on I need stuff and it sucks that others get it. Other gamemode gets this, other nation op, russia this russia that, cmon man. Always the other guys that are op and killing me, sucks. I wish the wouldnt

You can’t just keep adding stuff without any justification other than a “it will get better soon with X, trust” cope.
That’s like if air was dead and people asked for 50-60 years of development worth of vehicles to be added in the game, just on a hunch the mode might “undead” itself. Same goes for ground.

You’re asking them to add hundreds of vehicles with different mechanics attached to them just to try and get the Naval population above 1-2%.
Seems like you’re going all in and hoping missile ships will save the mode.
We have lower tiers of ground/air in the game as well and I don’t see Gaijin adding bots to those because they lack players.
Naval is a child of multiple circumstances that go beyond the mode itself. It can pretty much thank the other WT modes for it’s existence, as those actually keep the game alive and finance the freeloading mode.
Maybe when yamato gets plunging fire apfsds rounds. Just kidding, actually scharnhorst doesnt seem crazy op anymore but i didnt play a lot of naval rb lately since i can’t bring myself to start a new nation that i want and finished germany and japan. Might be in the stupidly cramped 10 km rb maps scharn is still crazy? Somehow oneshot 2 scharn with amagi in ec, but maybe there it’s not as crazy because of the lackluster guns on longer distances? But also was really strange cause the dude didn’t explode immediately when his ammo elevators caught fire but really quickly after, like 10 to 15 seconds…maybe he just failed to extinguish in time…
I keep hearing about the scharn and since i mostly use destroyers (though I’ve unlocked around 5 cruisers) I’m not ready to face it as I suck with cruisers.
unless you have access to internal Gaijin accounting, server and modelling facturation, you can’t say that for sure.
Besides, models are also used in WT mobile, so…
oh you need to get shimakaze then. Basically one of the fastest dds in game with 0 damage he main guns but the ship with the biggest amount of long lance torps in game. and those oneshot any ship currently in game almost every time. Just make sure to set the correct travel depth, happy sneaking ;-)
Its the best (and sometimes only) way to turn around a almost lost ec match when the enemy team is just vastly outnumbering your teams battleships and pressuring your harbors, just make sure you dont fire all of your torps into the torpedo nets and feed them too many sp by dying without hitting.
Oh and if you didn’t alread try that don’t try and challenge any top tier bb in a cruiser. Especially a scharnhorst. You wont do anything to it. You could think about supporting a friendly battleship firing at it with he shells to try and set his superstructures on fire, but that also won’t seriously damage it and only drain some crew. as long as it doesnt need to repair serious damage your friendly has dealt it will only cause his reload times to go up by having to extinguish the fire and keeping his aa unoccupied after you killed the sailors manning them once. After it has been dealing with your friendly hitting it you better have an escape plan ;-) Cause if hes angy at you and youre still wide in the open in his sights, let me tell you- you ded. But on the upside you wont have to endure a very long suffering. Bonus points tho if you have enough distance and can make him miss shots and distract him from more serious threats. but u will sink.
