yeah at that tier you are untouchable to all fighters except for the few that are known to be undertiered
only enemy that can actually fight back are other bombers with their gunners

Yes, it is, but usually, bombers are getting outgunned by fighters.
2x 50cal or 7.7mm with dreadful spray can makes interceptors get annoyed and forces them to RTB
But usually it can’t save the bomber itself from the fighter.
(Yes it damages, but not usually at a lethal level)
Be-6, Pe-8, 288C, or G8N are some exceptions.

the game has literally devolved into which side has the most people flying at ground targets to bomb them and which side does not have people suiciding into the ground to get muh rp. Seperating PvE from PvP quite literally gives both sides what they want here, one side gets to actually play PvP and the other side can like larp by bombing a factory or something
You realise I support the addition of more threatening air defences and I am completely okay with fighters, right? It’s these fighter tools who want to degrade the game into quake with planes purely because they couldn’t hack it in a more competitive setting I take issue with. If I had my way, we would have anti air batteries present across much larger scale maps, up to and including s300 systems.

All the two of us did was just not fly straight ahead. A Stuka B-2 did try climbing up to us but both of us hosed him down with .50cals and he peeled off, later bombing a bombing point and crashing sometime afterward.

War Thunder still has good bones. There’s a lot of diseased flesh needing surgical removal, but this game is quite fixable to a level where the vast majority of players can actually enjoy it.

They can, but go off.
And if they can, they probably have a very weak armament. The only planes that are proper threats to bombers are some 2.7/3.0 planes (several of which are undertiered).
What sub 2.3 planes can? The He-100 can, but it has a poor armament, and any damage to its cooling system is game over.

you’re all forgetting that a lot of the bombers at sub-2.3 BR are unreasonably tanky and many are flying boats loaded with turrets and huge crews
Yes, I too want to see more complex gameplay that incorporates all plane classes at the end of the day.
I see removal of the autowin ticket bleeds as merely the first step toward such an objective structure - clearing some room to bother trying to add in stuff like what you propose. A new foundation to improve things with, if you will.
Ideally I’d have matches be phased, with distinct Air Domination and CAS/Bombing phases. Loosely inspired by the sort of maps and setups you see in Ace Combat (without the hilarious reloading of weapons in midair from that series, ofc). The mode would shift from “one spawn” to “one death,” thereby enabling bringing of a lineup of planes, where you queue by your highest BR. There would only be red enemy markers on AI ground units and factory building bombing targets, intentionally there would be none on enemy aircraft of any sort, but we’d still have friendly markers.
In the latter phase is where more advanced AAA systems would actually make sense. An old idea I had was something along the lines of:

Phase 1: enemy interceptors take off from runway near factory. Goal is to destroy them all.
Phase 2: once enemy interceptors are killed, then its the job of ground attackers to take out long-range AAA/SAMs. Problem here is idk of any systems which have a large enough blind spot close to the ground for something to get under the radar with and kill in this manner. And any intelligent military would surround the long-range SAMs with short-range AAA too.
Phase 3: Bombers have to level the factory once the long-range air defenses are taken out.
